I am from Zach's hometown and still read the old paper from tiem to time. He made the Marion paper (Chronicle Tribune) today. He is not in any trouble, but it is exactly the type of situation you do not want your name attached to. I still follow Zach's career and think he's been playing well for you guys. One thing I can say is the less he comes back to Marion, the better.

A man was arrested on a warrant for attempted murder, after police say he shot another man several times in September.

According to Marion police reports, Ryan T. McMullen, 23, last known address 1503 W. Seventh St., was arrested on a warrant for attempted murder and probation violation at 1:26 a.m. Wednesday.

Marion police Deputy Chief Cliff Sessoms said McMullen was involved in a shooting Sept. 19 at 34th and Adams streets. Police were called to Circle K, 3245 S. Washington St., at 4:09 a.m. that day, where they found Edwin Elkins, 28, Marion, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Elkins was shot at least twice and suffered wounds to both upper thighs.

After the shooting occurred, police said they didn’t believe the incident was related to a club disturbance that occurred earlier that morning. Wednesday, Sessoms said a verbal dispute at R.D.’s Bar appears to be the motive in the shooting.

He said police were called to the bar, formerly called Streaty’s Ladies and Gentlemen’s Club, 1525 S. McClure St., about an hour before the shooting. Sessoms said there was a disturbance between Elkins and NBA player Zach Randolph, a Marion native who currently plays for the Memphis Grizzlies. The two men were arguing because McMullen had apparently gotten too close to Randolph’s vehicle, Sessoms said.

An hour after leaving the club, Elkins and his friend went to another club at 34th and Adams streets. When they got into their vehicle to leave, McMullen approached the vehicle and began shooting, Sessoms said. Elkins then walked to Circle K.

“He’s a friend or acquaintance of Mr. Randolph’s,” Sessoms said about McMullen. “There’s apparently some kind of beef between the shooter and Mr. Randolph.”

Though Elkins wouldn’t cooperate with police the night of the shooting, Sessoms said police received an anonymous tip the next day, telling them that McMullen was the shooter. A warrant was issued for McMullen in October.

“We’ve been looking for him since the warrant came out,” Sessoms said.

Police received another tip Tuesday, saying McMullen was in Kokomo. Police arrested him at an apartment Wednesday morning, Sessoms said. Police believe he is the only suspect in the shooting.

McMullen was being held Wednesday evening at the Grant County Jail on $100,005 bond. Sessoms said McMullen has a prior criminal history, including charges related to narcotics and criminal recklessness charges.
