In Memorium of Lorenzen Wright

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Thu Jul 29, 2010 8:41 am

Lorenzen Wright served many purposes in peoples lives to whom he came across in life. His family, his friends, and us the fans who respected him well. From the fans standpoint. He was a BTW Warrior from his days in high school who's athletic abilities lead him to play a collegiate career with the University of Memphis. From there his talents lead him to the NBA in 1996 where he was drafted by the Clippers as the 7th pick in the first round. In 1999 he played for the Hawks for two years. In 2001 when the Vancouver Grizzlies later became the Memphis Grizzlies. Lorenzen Wright came back home for a while. The fans loved his tenacious nature, his leadership, his willingness to play hard in the post every game. His way of being an enforcer and not being afraid of stepping into anyone's grill if they step wrong in the first place. That's the kind of player Ren was on the court. Off the court, Ren was a father to his kids, a son to his parents Herb and Debroah, a brother to many, a friend to his inner circle and well respected to fans here in Memphis.

Let's take this moment of silence to not remember how Lorenzen Wright died. Let's reflect on how Lorenzen Wright lived during his time here on Earth. He was a family man to his kin. He was a friend to those closest to him. He was an example for others to follow. He played the game of basketball to the best of his ability. The best things. He was a BTW Warrior, a Memphis Tiger, and a Memphis Grizzly.

Thx for the memories Lorenzen. RIP

I met Lorenzen at a function for the Grizzlies at the Adams Mark Hotel back in 2003. He honestly was the nicest player at the entire function. Pau Gasol would blow people off or be short with them but Lorenzen seemed to love playing in his hometown and was really great to the fans. I was thrilled when we traded for him

I remember telling him that he had the best suit of anyone from draft day and he laughed at that with his signature big grin. He honestly was a genuine person, I said that even before he died on a thread years back.
He was appreciative of playing in the NBA and you could tell.

I also remember using him heavily for NBA Live 97 for the Playstation as a kid. He had a good rating for a rookie and I enjoyed watching him develop as an effective player for the Clipper,Hawks and Grizzlies in his real life career. He was always undersized, but he was a workhorse who carved out a solid NBA career and gave the Grizzlies some fun years of basketball.
"People talk about Clyde Drexler being the best player on the team, but I say it was Kevin Duckworth. If he played well, we knew we were going to win."

He was a good ballplayer, always thought he'd be a good backup forward on any team in the league. RIP.
