Grizzlies take a look at free agent guards Larry Hughes, Ronald 'Flip' Murray

Free-agent guards Larry Hughes and Ronald "Flip" Murray worked out for the Grizzlies this week as the team considers adding to its 13-man roster.

The 31-year-old NBA veterans went through a series of drills but did not compete against each other. Coaches and members of the front office attended the Monday drills.

The Griz are only weighing their options and no moves (including potential trades) are imminent, according to general manager Chris Wallace.

Memphis would like to add an experienced, backup point guard. The team also could use more outside shooting, as Memphis ranks 20th in the league in 3-point percentage (.348).

Hughes and Murray played in the NBA last season.

Murray is someone the Griz considered signing last year. Instead, Memphis picked up Allen Iverson and Murray signed with the Charlotte Bobcats.

The 6-3 combo guard was later traded to Chicago, where he finished the season. Murray's career averages are 9.9 points per game on 41 percent shooting, including 30 percent from 3-point range.

Hughes, a 6-5 combo guard, last played for Charlotte. He averaged 14.2 points on 41 percent shooting (31 percent from 3-point range) during his career.

posted the whole article since it wasn't that long.

seems management is looking for that back up at the 2 spot that can produce, or probably start if they decide to have OJ as the 6th man. both are nice pick ups and wouldn't hurt if both were signed IMO.

As I have said time and again, bring in Antonio Daniels. We need a backup point guard more than a wing, unless a trade is in the works.

Return to Memphis Grizzlies
