Trade: Speights, Henry, picks

Post#1 » by jumivi » Wed Jan 4, 2012 4:31 pm

ESPNSteinLineMarc Stein
Trade, on course to be completed Wednesday, would send Speights to Grizz, Xavier Henry to Hornets and furnish Philly with two future picks.

i think its great for us, we give henry, but with oj, allen and pondexter is expendable. Dont know about picks yet.

About Speights i hope he can learn with Marc and Zach, he has potential but seems lost a lot in philly.

Had to be done. Needed someone to spell Zach and Marc - Speights fits the bill.

I understand the move, but I can't help but feel this is another short sighted move for the franchise.

Best of luck to X and welcome to Memphis Speights.

Speights fills a need, plain and simple, even if he doesn't end up being anything more than what he's shown so far in his career. Heisley has spent alot of money for this season so they needed to shore things up quickly with Arthur and Randolph being out.

I suppose it boiled down to Henry or Mayo from managements view. And Mayo gives them experience that Henry simply didn't have for a team that is looking to be a playoff challenger.

The only negative I can think of is that no one really knows what Xavier Henry's potential is since he has barely played in the NBA. That could possibly end up coming back to bite them, and the Hornets were
willing to take that chance.

But the Grizzlies have lived without Henry up until now just fine other than they need a consistant long range shooter.

Speights? Who knows if a change in team might do something for a player with potential, but an underachieving one in Philly. All I know is that he is going to get a chance to show what he can do. And anything that gives Gasol, and when he returns, Randolph, some breaks during games, is a need.

Knicks are good at the back court. Speights is good. I hope the Grizzlies did not overlook some of Henry's potential.

So far, it appears to be a good move. The Griz needed another body to help out their frontcourt with Zbo missing a couple of games and Arthur missing the season. Hopefully Spreights can contibute on both ends for the team.

On X, I wish him the best. Maybe when his injury heals completely, he'll be able to contribute to his new team in the Hornets.

I freaking dropped him in fantasy league today. Chris Wallace must be in my league and picked him up in real life just so he could get him in fantasy.

You'll like parts of his game.
He's an OK rebounder, sort of 9-10 REB36 but good on the offensive glass (not Z-Bo good, though), and he can score, but he does so on below-average efficiency. Makes his FTs, though, and while he's particularly ineffective on the block, he's got a really nice perimeter 2-point jumper.

As far as bad situations go, he's a pretty decent pickup.

He does have a lot of potential. Unfortunately Mo is pretty dumb and doesn't seem to have much drive or motivation. He had some nice stints with the Sixers, but he is in love with shooting mid range jumpers every time he gets the ball. Definitely provides some instant offense, but he'll need some persuasion to crash the boards and work hard on defense. He improved in rebounding but still nothing special.

I think when a whole team has a particular mentality, it tends to rub off on new additions. A team that prides itself on "grinding" out wins is probably a really good fit for a guy like Speights.
