Jason Levien Steps Down As Grizzlies' CEO,

Post#1 » by jumivi » Mon May 19, 2014 11:50 pm

I hope Wallace to be full time again the CEO and Manager of the team, and say goodbye to Hollinger too.
About Joerger i think he did a good job but it was a BAD move.

The way I understand this, it may be a case of too many cooks in the kitchen. It was never quite clear who was in charge of personnel decisions... Levien? Wallace? Hollinger? Pera?

I think a little cleaning house was inevitable. I think Wallace should stay, and Hollinger can be an asset, but Pera has to be less involved in personnel matters. Joerger should perhaps be more involved.

One would think the ideal setup is Wallace having the final say given his experience and credibility as a talent evaluator. Hollinger can help find bargain players, Joerger's input goes to what types of players he needs on the court, and someone else in the FO who answers to both Wallace and Pera advises on financial ramifications of personnel decisions.

But we'll see.

This news can change a lot of things from this point forward. Who would've thought there were some deep rooted issues among the front office. I heard a bit from both Hasseltine and Parrish shows that the root of the issue came down to Pera siding with some lawyer named Dave Mitchberg who wanted in on the operations in some capacity and Levian on what direction the team should go. Either way this Grizzlies offseason has started off with a big bang! How will the Grizzlies weather this storm?

Really surprised no one else has address their opinions on this hot situation.

More on the situation is that Chris Wallace is currently the interim GM for now. Hollinger and Jeorger jobs are questionable. Also Pera seems determine to keep the Grizzlies in the direction towards winning a championship.

so, Wolves Receive Permission To Interview Dave Joerger
Clearly Jorger was a Levien pick... i really hopes Wallace stays as a fulltime CEO. Its posible to hire Hollins again? it could be a really nice story.

I think Herrington said that wallace is a fan of Joerger's. This may be Joerger's choice more than anything. It may also be to try to let other coaches (thibodeau specifically) know that we're serious.

I guess Calipari is on their radar too. Sigh.

Could happen. It's real crazy right now in Grizz Nation.

Not surprised that Joerger wants out now that Levien is gone. Thick as thieves, those two.

Don't think it's going to upset the team too much though. Joerger was a good coach but he was not a great coach and I don't think he did anything to make us better than we were under Hollins.

First there is a confidentiality agreement between Levien & Pera so the real reason will not be coming out anytime soon or ever since Pera never talks and Levien doesn't want to get sued.

1. Pera conducted his own exit interview with the players away from the front office personnel. (what was said that made this action necessary or at the very least the team needed to be steered in a different direction)
2. Joerger has not spoken with Pera regarding his future, only Pera's lawyer. (not Minceberg, but his personal attorney, and if you want to reassure a person they hear it directly from you, permission was granted to Minnesota soon thereafter.
3. The word was that Pera wanted to fire Joerger during the season, and this could have been the main sticking point between the two, but that would raise the question about Stu Lash being just collateral damage but he was fired first and Levien reportedly resigned over that action. (ALLEGEDLY)

This looks like a bad pattern for Jason Levian as for every time he does two year stints with teams, it appears to be an issue that pops up that he ends up leaving. It was recalled before he became CEO of the Grizzlies that he has a history of burning bridges like he did in Sacramento and Philadelphia. So far, this is the first time I know of that he was fired from any NBA organization so far into his career.
