Memphis is hurting for money, and cannot sign Rudy Gay if he is offered too much. Here is a move that could allow them to keep Gay.
Trade Redd for Randolph
Both have expiring contracts but redd's is insured saving them $14 million.

Grizzles side: You now package the 12, 25 and 28 for the Timberwolves 4 and draft Demarcus Cousins(giving the Twolves 5 1st round picks, netting them according to the latest mock draft Luke Babbit, Paul George, Kevin Seraphin, Craig Brackins and Larry Sanders).

Bucks side: Huge potential for next year

Timberwolves side: Not enamored with anybody at their spot, and SF is a position of need, only question for them is, is Luke Babbit, Craig Brackins, and Larry Sanders more valuable than Wesley Johnson?

This deal makes sense for everyone.

The Grizz aren't hurting for money. The billionaire owner is committed to running like any of the other businesses he's successfully turned around. Over the past 3 seasons or so, that's meant dropping the payroll to rebuild. In years past Heisley has committed significant salary to winning and has said he will do so again when the time is right - which seems to be upon us now.

Secondly, the Wolves are intent on trying to move up to 2, not moving down for three picks.

Sorry, this trade fails to get off the ground. It's a classic example of "making sense on paper" but having no basis in reality...

As much I would like to see Cousins in Memphis, I don´t think he´s any better than Z-Bo + Montiejunas or Z-Bo + Henry, which is essentialy what we´re giving up.

Wouldn't it make sense for Memphis to just keep the significantly better player in Randolph and, if Minnesota was actually dumb enough to make that deal, take Cousins and let him develop behind Z-Bo for a year?

Michael Redd has an amount of his contract insured(and he wont play next year) which would net the Grizz $14 Million. But based on the owner being a Billionaire it really doesn't make sense, bright future down there no matter what.

Z-Bo nearly untouchable i think. he loves here and memphis love him. gasol be friend with him. on the otherhand rudy can go that does not hurt us much i think.

Here's the only problem with that.

The Grizzlies' starting 5 won 40 games basically by themselves. And I cannot find the numbers, but they were also THE MOST effective starting unit (and there are numbers somewhere to prove it) in the league. On the other hand, they were playing scrubs (Marcus Williams, Hamed Hadaddi) and underachieving rookies (Thabeet, Demarre Carroll) as their bench, and there was always a hole.

Instead of trading Randolph and getting an immature kid to fill his shoes, the Grizz need to add depth. But not just drafting more rookies, they need veterans who can pay immediately. For the first time in a while, the Grizz are looking at next year instead of years down the road. We stopped rebuilding when Randolph got here.

I agree. The question is how to retain the current players while adding another couple of experienced players. Gay and Brewer are up to bat this summer. Gasol and Randolph next year. You just know something has to give. I can't see Heisley willing to go to the salary territory within a two year period that it will take to keep all the players.

Take a look at the team salaries from this season. Even borderline playoff teams were at least in the mid to high $60mil plus region. Despite my total dislike for Heisley I hope he comes into a cash windfall and decides to throw stingyness to the wind and does what it takes but I wouldn't bet a dime on that happening.
