Rudy was offered a huge deal 5yr deal with Minnesota and Memphis has matched it. So Rudy will be in Memphis for the next 5yrs. The actual amount was way more then what he was asking(50 to 60 Mil a yr).
There is no link to this story yet.
Trust me though, what I say is true.

The Memphis Grizzlies and restricted free-agent Rudy Gay have agreed in principle on a five-year contract, The Commercial Appeal has learned.
Multiple NBA sources indicated that Gay will sign the deal on or soon after July 8 when teams are allowed to finalize contracts.
Gay's starting salary will be the maximum allowed a player with his experience - projected to be roughly $13.3 million - according to sources.
Gay, 23, was supposed to visit the Minnesota Timberwolves this afternoon but canceled the trip. The 6-8 forward will not visit any potential suitors.

Wow. OJ Mayo is a younger, multidimensional version of Gay and the Grizzlies continue to cripple his development.
What a pathetic, financially ignorant franchise.

WTF? The only person capable of crippling OJ's development in OJ himself. OJ's a winner and will do whatever it takes, within the confines of the team, to win. Sorry he can't put up pretty numbers for all the fanboi's out there. The Grizz fans love OJ's game and respect him for this.

Overpaid by about $20M but had to do it to have any hope of the playoffs next season.

You better bring it this year Rudy. The future of this franchise depends on it.

Why didn't Memphis just wait and match any offer that Rudy had? This makes no sense.

Too much really. Were the Grizzlies afraid someone was going to frontload his contract or something? Might as well just match whatever offer he was going to get instead.

To think, he could have gotten a $65 million extension before last season.

Like tekkon said, I'm guessing Heisley was afraid that if someone else made the offer he would have to pay $20M up front.
