Undefeated in the Preseason: does that mean anything?

Does it mean anything that we are undefeated in the preseason? We are playing pretty efficient basketball and utilizing the team mentality. Conley Jr. has played well off and on too. What does this mean for our squad?

I don't know if it translates into what kind of a season the team might have but what it does show is that they are more prepared early on. Remember how they started the season last year with the Iverson distraction? That start may have cost them the points needed to squeak into the playoffs.

Injuries and other factors might keep them from achieving the goal of a playoff spot but if they can get off to a good start it might be the difference come April.

The record doesn't mean nothing but it certainly doesn't mean a whole lot, what does mean a lot is how the team is playing. Some of the things I've noticed that are of note so far in preseason are:
Conley is much better at attacking and finishing at the basket, might actually be a better scoring pg than passing pg.
Acie Law has looked pretty good as a backup pg, gets to the basket and free throw line pretty easily and has done a decent job at distributing.
Darrell Arthur looks fantastic, just for the simple fact that he is attacking the basket with force. After his injury last year I saw him try to go gently to the basket too many times.
They're only allowing 94 points game.
Thabeet's improved, how much of an improvement it's been is yet to be determined.
The bench is outscoring other benches, minus the caja caja laboral game they've usually extended the lead.
Way too many turnovers, over 20 in 4 of the 6 games and the other two they had 17 and 18. It was a problem last year, it'll probably be a problem again this year.
Xavier Henry's shooting has been awful, it was apparently cold in training camp as well. Hopefully he's just cold and he doesn't go Adam Morrison or Luke Jackson on us and forgets how to make jumpers.

While ultimately the wins mean nothing, there's no doubt that we're seeing some of the best team ball in Memphis in a long time - since the Hubie days. If the Grizz stay healthy, they have a very good chance at fighting for a playoff spot.

I've been able to watch exactly zero games so far, but the fact that Conley seems (effectively) aggressive and the bench seems to be performing decently is encouraging.

It doesn't help but it sure as hell doesn't hurt.

I like the fact that someone in the organization made the decision to stick with the current roster and not make any big offseason moves. I recall Lionel Hollins remarking that the idea was to add to the players they have, not move some out for different ones.

I think the stability factor moving forward from last year with the group that knows the system is paying dividends.

It is definately better than losing all your preseason games. But I think it depends on how you are playing it. Do the 13-15 men get alot of time or have you been only playing the regular rotation.

As downtown said. We almost made the playoff last year if we didnt started with that 1-8 streak or sth like that, i dont remember. Iverson really hurted the beggining of the season.

Last year we had no bench at all, but our starters could beat ANY team at a 35minutes game. This year i dont think it has to change. the main core is still the same, the main difference is gasol last year contract, and gay has some more $$$. It is a pity to see brewer is gone cause he could have helped from the bench. but arthur is back, acie law seems to be a good backup, thabeet and sam old are getting better. not sure what to expect from thabeet, allen and henry this year.

I think we can make it to the playoffs, at least, i think there are 7 worst teams than us in the west, that can make it happen.

Since 01-02, 3 teams have gone undefeated in preseason. All of them made the playoffs, two made the conference finals and the lowest win total was 49.

I'll piggyback on this post with a few more facts taken from Tillery's article today:

The last time the Grizz won seven or more preseason games was 03-04; Grizz finished with 50 wins and the first playoff berth in franchise history.

Over the last two years, 19 of the 25 (76%) teams with winning preseason records ultimately made the playoffs.

I'm glad they played solid in the preseason, but it's only the preseason. Right now the real deal will began in the next few days. Those gamedays will count. I hope that whatever the Grizz brought into the preseason can maintain its momentum in the regular season.

These are excellent signs.....

I really hope we can carry it over. We wouldn't want to belong to that bottom 24%.
