Grizzlies exercise options on Mayo, Arthur, Thabeet

Post#1 » by jman3134 » Thu Oct 28, 2010 8:36 pm

The Memphis Grizzlies exercised the fourth-year contract options on guard O.J. Mayo and forward Darrell Arthur and the third-year option on center Hasheem Thabeet, Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace announced today.

All three players are now guaranteed through the 2011-12 season.

At this point in time, I can only shake my head in disgust.

They did say Thabeet was a 3 year project so I guess they'll try sticking with him until there is absolutely no hope left, could also be Gasol insurance I guess.

That's my take too.

I understand the rationale.
The fact that sometimes it looks like he doesn't play hard and doesn't go after the ball is just really starting to bother me. Hopefully the sinking feeling in my gut after watching him last night is the wrong instinct.

Yeah, he looked as bad as he's ever looked before. However, he was much improved from the beginning of last year to the end, hopefully he does the same thing.

At least they understand now that DeMarre Carroll isn't an NBA player. Wish Wallace knew that before he took him over Blair.

Neither Thabeet nor Carroll were Wallace's picks. That's not to say he was willing to throw himself on his sword to stop them.

Wallace signaled this by stating, then reiterating on both Tillary and Vernon's shows that the Grizz did not and would not make promises to potential draftees. Not two days later word started to leak that Carroll was guaranteed the slot for the Grizz's 2nd first round pick. Heisley (at West's behest) opted for Thabeet and my contention is that they were "Barone'd" into promising and taking Carroll.

My belief is that had Wallace been given full reign the draft would have gone more along the lines of Evans, Young then Blair.

I have always wonder about Barone's eye for draft picks. I always get the vibe that he doesn't have the best clue on going about getting the best place available for this franchise.
