I figured I'd make a thread about the rookie. It definitely looks like he's getting better and (considering our lack of shooters) it seems that he could end up being an important part of this team right off the bat.
http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/472 ... i3MGqkvLYFThe stats don't look great right now, but personally I like what I see from X. He's relatively aggressive, his shot looks like it's starting to drop, and he generally seems to make pretty good decisions. I think once he's comfortable out there he'll be a pretty nice threat from three (just keep your damn toe off the line rookie).

I think if he was on a team like Philly that has nothing to play for and he was their #2 pick he'd be doing better than Turner and in talks for rookie of the year along with Griffin and Wall. but as my teacher used to say, "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, oh what a party we'd have". he could easily flame out in that pressure sitation like his underwhelming year at Kansas. BUT BUT BUT - he seems perfect for the ROLE Grizzlies have given him! (and NEED from him)

Xavier's a few steps behind everyone still, but he's catching up with a fury. His defense will keep him in the rotation. His offense will catch up. Hollins likes him. If you doubt that, just ask Tony Allen. He, and his lack of minutes, will attest to it.

Xavier Henry will be stud in the league sooner than people thought he would. He just needs minutes.

Define stud because he looks like a high end role player in the Battier and Mike Miller mold

can he be a player such as Kevin Martin, Manu Ginobli, Joe Johnson? or maybe Rip hamilton, JR Smith, Raja Bell, Ron Harper? I think his size frame is the same as Ron Harper. Just has to polish those skills

Ron Harper was way more athletic than Henry and even when he had knee surgery he had some pg skills to make the transition, Henry has very mediocre at best ball handling skills. Xavier is also limited offensively as primarily a jumpshooter and he doesn't seem like an O.J. Mayo or a Jamal Crawford who can get hot and drop big points because he didn't even do it in college. I guess if things go perfect he could be a Jimmy Jackson or Michael Redd type scorer but I doubt it, probably looking at a Battier with nowhere near as good defense or a Mike Miller without the playmaking which is pretty good value for a 12th pick

I think we probably want to wait a couple years before saying his ceiling is Jim Jackson or Michael Redd. Sure, those guys were good players, but Henry is a 19 year old rookie. His game has quite a bit of room to grow.
Right now he seems like a decent athlete, has a nice stroke and has a big body. I think as time goes on he'll show that he has a nice basketball IQ as well.

His ceiling is more like James Posey, I just said Jimmy Jackson and Michael Redd as a highly unlikely, nearly impossible ceiling like the Mayo/Kobe comparison. I actually think James Andersen will end up the better player of the two

I think it is nigh on impossible to assess a 19 year old rookie and say he is definitely like any one particular player. I think he will be a solid 2 in this league. I expect his shot to get more range, his handle to improve and his defence to get really good. A lot of people say he is not that athletic, but if I'm not mistaken he absolutely shocked scouts at the combine with his speed and hops.

One of these things is not like the other...
