Cleveland fan here.. Just wanted to see what you guys are looking for in return for Thabeet? Would an offer that gives you a sizeable trade exception and Cash work? Or are you guys expecting significant assets? What about something like this..
• Cleveland Trades: $4,793,280 Trade Exception, $2 Million Cash
• Memphis Trades: Hasheem Thabeet
Reasons:
1. Cleveland Cavaliers: Take a shot at a young center that has the physical tools to be a viable player in this league.
2. Memphis Grizzlies: Significant financial relief along with a trade exception they could use to acquire a meaningful player that earns less than Thabeet but can be a bigger contributor. Cash is attached as well which is additional incentive.

That deal would only be considered if time was a factor, meaning the Grizz were under the gun in getting rid of him before the deadline. The Grizz are not under the gun to trade him so I am sure they are looking for something a little more tangible in the deal for the second overall pick.

Dont necessarily think they are under the gun to trade him at the deadline but they are running out of time to make a deal for him and the longer he gets no PT on a below average team, the further his value plummets.. This offseason is going to be crucial for the Grizzlies since they have some important decisions to make regarding Randolph and Mayo. Gasol is going to come back with the Grizzlies and will be paid extremely well. That leaves Thabeet as the odd man out.. With this trade they save a significant amount of money while also getting some cash in return. Honestly, thats the best deal you can make for him at this point imo.

Much as with OJ, the feeling I get from the Grizz FO is that they are just as happy keeping Thabeet this season and next as they would be moving him. In other words, neither will be moved for pennies on the dollar. Had the Grizz only been worried about moving Thabeet or getting him off the books, all they had to do was not exercise his option and let him walk after this season. Really that simple.

Its not just pennies on the dollar though. Yes, that is a factor. However, the trade exception could be very useful if the Grizzlies are truly serious about contending now. That exception is going to be the same amount as Thabeet's salary and could garner a significantly better player than Thabeet at similar or lower cost. Plus, they also get some cash. If they can find a taker for Thabeet by the deadline that gives them exactly what they want, then they should do it. In case they cant though, I think getting the Exception is going to be more useful and provides them with greater flexibility.

I just wanted to add a minor point.
Since MEM is going to be under the cap this summer, they would probably need to renounce the TPE to use all their cap space. I understand the arguement, "Is Thabeet really going to be worth cutting $5.1 mil into our cap space next year?" and that's a question you guys can debate. However, I'd point out that the TPE has value if you use it right away, before the trade deadline in a three-teamer - otherwise you're just overpaying for a TPE when it'd have the same result for you as a cheaper expiring.

With Roy coming back, and Portland currently set to make the Playoffs, why would they do that?

I have to believe that Memphis would take that trade. Pryzbilla would be a perfect fit behind Gasol and would help alot for the Grizzlies effort of getting into the playoffs.
But like the last poster said, why would Portland help out Memphis? These teams are battling each other right now for that last playoff position and neither team will be making deals with each other. It doesn't make sense.

The funniest thing I heard about Thabeet from observers of the team, is that his passion is not playing basketball, but in shopping to the point that he carries a Murse, (a Euro man bag). LOL
Thabeet does not want to be Hakeem Olajuwan but Carrie Bradshaw! Hilarious!

Teams still like to have bigs, but aren't as desperate to get them as they used to. PFs play C, SFs play PF. Tall for the sake of tall isn't a hot commoditiy anymore. What do you honestly think the Grizzlies can get for him?
An expiring contract and a 2nd, or a decent bench player will be about as good as it gets. I can't imagine Cleveland blowing the Lebron trade excemption to get Thabeet.
