Bad news from MRI about F Rudy Gay. He'll miss at least 4 weeks with partially separated left shoulder, The Commercial Appeal is reporting.

Dislocated or separated? In my experience, separated is much, much worse and dislocation really only requires that it be put back in place followed by rest - but I'm not an M.D. so what do I know.

Terrible news. There“s your last chance to step up OJ Mayo.

What do you guys think? Sam Young starting at small forward? Henry? There's really not much else. Carroll can't do it.

There's never a good time to have someone injured, but right now they need to keep the momentum going somehow. I suppose we'll be seeing alot of trade proposals in here with a small forward coming in return.

TMac? Mbah a Moute? Illiyasova? Any other lower priced, expiring contract players you can think of as a stopgap measure?

starting Henry with Mayo would be the best case in this scenario but that is if Mayo can get his act together and who knows whats going on with henry these days

Partial dislocation (not separation).
Still, 4 weeks really hurts. Get better Rudy.

There's no way Henry should be starting. Based on how he's shot the ball, he shouldn't even be among the top 3 players to play at shooting guard or small forward.
Depth chart for those spots right now:
1a. Tony Allen 1b. Sam Young
2. OJ Mayo

3. Xavier Henry

well he played pretty well when he was starting despite his shot not falling(and i think it will come around, he hasnt had a ton of attempts). His D is good and has a high bball IQ and would let mayo do his thing.

I basically agree with you. But Sam Young and Tony Allen have been way better than him. Not just statistically, you can see it in the way they play, team offense, team defense, 1 on 1 offense etc.

He's still a (young) rookie. Like I've said, once he gets a little more confidence and experience out there (and he starts hitting his outside shots) he'll be a very good player. But in the middle of a playoff hunt, I don't really want him out there unless we're blowing people out or are getting blown out.
Rudy's injury could give him an opportunity to contribute and if we need him I'll (obviously) root for him to play well.

OJ Mayo is going to get the start, and will be the focal point of the offense. Time to showcase talents....Feb 22nd

I have feeling he'll come back way early, I'm thinking around 2 weeks

Agreed. Dislocated shoulders are not that bad, especially when you have a solid week of doing absolutely nothing athletic.

Also, even if he is out the full 4 weeks (3 weeks of games, ~11 games), I don't see this being that big of a deal. We're loaded at the wing position to begin with, Gay's contribution is primarily scoring (and only scoring) which we have plenty of in his absence (especially with OJ's return), and we've played relatively well in the few games he's missed this year IIRC.

Now, if Zbo or Gasol were out 11 games, that would really hurt IMO.

Edit: Besides, it looks like Denver is going to lose Melo for the season and Utah's already lost Sloan for the season.

According to the Grizz beat writer this morning he's on tract to be back in the anticipated time frame, barring setbacks. He's traveling with the team now, which is a good sign.

Hasn't been formally announced if he is. He has been traveling with the team, which I'm told is a good sign.

I hope he doesn't disrupt the chemistry of this lineup which is playing with a lot of confidence.

Prior to the injury, Young was starting along side Rudy with Allen coming off the bench.

That said, although Sam has improved, I think Allen has won Hollins over.
