A man has been sentenced to 97 years in prison for shooting Memphis Grizzlies guard Antonio Burks.
Criminal Court Judge Mark Ward on Thursday sentenced 20-year-old Darquan Lynneral Swift for the July 2009 shooting and attempted robbery during a dice game behind a vacant duplex. Burks, who played at the University of Memphis, and another man were critically injured and several others were robbed.
Burks testified at Swift's trial that Swift shot him in the stomach and then tried to shoot him in the head but the gun jammed. He said he will remember Swift's face for the rest of his life.
According to prosecutors, Swift will be eligible for parole after serving about 51 years.

Good riddance. If anything, someone like this should get more time. Not only did he ruin Burks' basketball career (I remember reading that he couldn't play or something to that effect), but he would have taken his life as well had his gun not jammed. People like that should be put away for good.
