Nets cannot really offer a player for him. It will be some scrub(s) with picks if a trade were going to happen.

I love Anthony Morrow. If they can get him and a first rounder I would do it.

oj + sam young
for
farmar + morrow + 1st pick 2012

I believe the offer is Morrow OR Farmar and the 1st.

Yeah - I haven't seen anything indicating both were offered to Memphis. There would have to be other player(s) going back in addition to OJ to make that work.

The Nets main reason for wanting Mayo is to get back an expiring contract to keep them in distance in the D-12 sweepstakes. I have my doubts that this trade will go down and the Nets will look elsewhere. As for Mayo himself, it looks inevitable that he'll be playing elsewhere considering all the trade rumors and how he was nearly traded last season.

Farmar and Morrow are expiring contracts, so the Nets don't want Mayo for salary purposes. They want him because they are looking for someone who can elevate the team's play, thereby increasing the likelihood that Deron Williams will re-sign there (and that Dwight will follow him).

If it's up to me, then no way we do any of these deals unless the NJ pick is included and unprotected. Mayo is far too valuable for us this season, even if it's a foregone conclusion that he will sign elsewhere this summer (which it isn't).

He's our only credible deep threat, a very solid defender, a skilled ball-handler, and is finally settling into his JasonTerry/JamesHarden role.

At the very least we should wait this one out. His value is likely to be significantly higher in a month, IMO, due to the effect the offensive adjustments we are making without Zach will have on his numbers.

Unless hoopshype is mistaken, Morrow has one more year on his deal and Farmer has a PO for next year - so the salary incentive for NJ holds water.

Relative to 3 point shooting, Morrow and Farmer are each 3 point threats as much as Mayo, if not more in Morrow's case (Morrow is a career 45% shooter from 3, while Farmer is shooting 43% from 3 this year; while Mayo is shooting 43% this year and 38% from 3 for his career). Mayo seems to be the more complete player, but I can't say for sure as I've not seen too much of Morrow and only saw Farmer in a limited role with the Lakers.

I like OJ as much as the next Grizz fan, but you're dreaming if you think he's worth the Nets' unprotected first. However, I do agree with you that his value should rise in the next month as his production should increase without Zbo in the lineup.

Yeah I guess I misunderstood how the trade checker lists years remaining. My mistake.

While I admit that Farmar and Morrow are at least as good from the 3 point line as Mayo (especially Morrow), like you said, Mayo is a more complete player, and not just a designated shooter. These guys are rightfully bench players (even if Morrow has started some games); Mayo is a starter who comes off the bench for the sake of the team.

I'm not trying to say that Mayo is worth the Nets unprotected 1st, but what I'm saying is (if I'm the GM) that's what it would take to get him from us. What I would rather get is a proven contributor (moreso than Farmar or Morrow) who is signed multiple years. But I just don't see that player out there right now.

We have deep playoff aspirations this year, and the West is wide open. The Thunder look like the team to beat, but I think, in light of previous matchups and the moves we've made recently, we match up very well with them (assuming Zach gets back to his old self by playoff time).

Stupid trade if we trade for Morrow. I rather have Ronnie Brewer from the Bulls and the Bulls first round pick from the Bobcats. Ronnie Brewer plays great defense and finally started to hit 3 pointers and his jumper. Morrow only shoots and does nothing more

If you are worried about the pick the offer of Farmar and a 1st should be much more appealing.

I'd rather have Lebron James for OJ Mayo, but that offer is not on the table so why consider it in comparison the actual offers on the table?
