So with the few moves that we've made, our team is really starting to come together. So far, it's looking like this:

PG - Conley / Bayless / Wroten
SG - Allen / Franklin
SF - Pondexter / Prince / Miller
PF - Randolph / Davis / Leuer
C - Gasol / Koufos

From what we're hearing, the only thing that may change is the addition of Mo Williams, which would probably push Bayless to SG (and most likely out of the 6th man position too).

Are we happy with what we've done? I think Koufos for Arthur was a great move. But other than that, I'm disappointed that we haven't done more (yet) to improve our 3 point shooting. That doesn't even really change if we do get Williams as he is perpetually one bump away from a season ending injury..

Well he and Miller will be protected. Bayless will play most of the minutes as the top perimeter backup.

And the biggest shooting boost may come by subtraction: we're looking to dump Tayshaun as I understand it.

Dumping Tay is a good idea.

Even if we get virtually nothing for him. His contract isn't great (not terrible, but not great) and if he goes for nothing (ie, draft picks) then it will give more shots to the likes of Conley, Bayless and Pondexter.

I agree - addition by subtraction..

Our only issue is losing princes length defensively. For all his flaws he, like rudy before him, makes it much easier to defend the elite sf's, and also had some rim-protecting ability that made up for zbo.

However, pondexter has shown very good potential defensively. He has quicker feet than prince or even gay, and plays bigger than 6'6".

But i wonder if he can keep up his 40% 3pt shooting if asked to take tough defensive assignments for 30mpg.

I feel like i'm always on the Grizz board lol. You guys are my favorite team out west (i'm a celtic fan).

Think getting rid of Prince would help, but you kinda need some one like him. I like Koufos & expect Davis to play well this year. Think a 3rd string 7fter would help (insurance).

Mo Will is a spectacular upgrade at any costs. Him & Bayless together would LIGHT IT UP. Could go offense with Mo Bayless Miller or defense with Conley Allen Prince. I really like Franklin & Wroten too. Guys are stackkked at the 1-3 if you add Mo Will.

Really just get Mo Will, & a 3rd string 7fter. Prince won't hurt the team, just cut those mins back & the new coach might just do that. He's good to have on the team, just not for 30mins lol. All that depth will really keep Mo, Miller, Prince, Zbo healthy.

Prince brings some good things to the table, but it's just flat out painful to watch when he and Allen are on the court together. And with 2 years and over $14mil left on his contract, if we can afford to lose him, then we can't afford not to.

If we can dump him, then it makes everything much simpler next summer. Pondexter and Davis are RFA's, Koufos has a team option, and Bayless is UFA. Without Prince, we can afford to keep all of them if we choose to.

IMO I think the Grizz are a sleeper candidate for Greg Oden, not that we need another Ohio St guy but the organization has been a little cryptic regarding an additional move from someone not wanting their possible signing publicized.

I am not saying it will be a long term deal but with the ties he would have in the Conleys and not wanting too much attention, this would be a good landing spot. Koufus has a team option for next year and Marc Gasol is a free agent after two years, so you never know how forward thinking the organization will be.

Mike Miller has championship experience so that is a great thing to have, Veterans like Allen and Prince will not drop off that much, if we monitor how many minutes they play. Ed Davis needs to take the next step. Bayless can also get better, if he builds confidence.

Really hope we can pick up Harrington & Mo.

Atl released Stevenson . Is he even worth a look as the last wing?

Guys how many veterans do we really need to sign? I mean am I the only one who thinks its worthwhile to devote roster spots to some of these young guys? How are they ever going to develop if there isn't even room for them on the bench?

I really, really think we should be using the Spurs' blueprint for success. They find big minutes for inexperienced guys and just expect them to be professional and pick everything up very quickly.

I suppose that I can understand sitting on a guy like Wroten. He has an incomplete skillset and isn't very useful until he adds to his arsenal (though if he improves in just a couple of areas he can be a borderline all-star player, IMO). But guys like Franklin, Davis, and Leuer seem more NBA-ready, and I don't think it makes sense to have even drafted/acquired them in the first place if we aren't going to give them a chance.

And even a guy like Wroten has his usefulness in situations where we can cover up his flaws; I much rather would have seen him try to use his range, length, and strength to fight over screens against Parker in the WCF last year instead of watching Mike Conley get wiped out by screens or Tony Allen completely lose track of Parker in the open court. (I know Wroten is not a proven defender at this point, but he seemed very good on that end in limited action and certainly has the measurables).

And it will probably be the same story this year. Every team in the West that will likely be battling for a playoff spot besides the Rockets and maybe the Mavericks boasts a dynamic PG (CP3, Parker, Westbrook, Curry, Holiday, Lawson, Lillard, Rubio). If regular season experience could make Wroten's offense just okay or not a complete liability, then he would become very useful if my evaluation of his defense is accurate.

Sorry I know I rambled in that post... I just don't see the point of suddenly trying to become the league's oldest team.

Would be a great pickup if they signed Mo Williams to the vet minimum. The offense got pretty muddy when Conley was resting.

Prince is a love/hate player. His perimeter defense helped solidify Memphis' half court D. His jump shot is just plain awful.

Backup PG has been something of a watermark for us in each of the last three playoffs.

Greivis was inexperienced but effective, and - playing with a veteran bench that included mayo and battier - was able to be a difference-maker at times. The 2011 bench was a strength for us, as opposed to the bench we've had the last couple years.

Arenas was a disaster, and a big part of the reason we lost in the first round.

Dooling was just okay. He was able to handle the ball up the court, but we relied more on Bayless as a playmaker. Conley played a ton of minutes though, and it showed in the WCF.

Signing Mo would, like you said, be a huge gain for us. Defensively, a backcourt consisting of he and Bayless could be ugly, but Koufos and Ed Davis are active on that end and are capable of cleaning up a lot of mistakes on the perimeter.

True, but the Grizz have a legit back-up C in Koufos now, something they definitely lacked last season. Having Ed Davis and Z-Bo spot minutes there while Gasol was resting.

Bayless had a bounce back season last year, but he would still play erratic at times and out of control. Mo would be a steady hand and certainly upgrade the 3-point shooting.

Word just came down, Mo Williams is signing two year deal with Portland.

i dont think so, i think Udrih fits better with our team, hes more a playmaker (with a nice touch), and doesnt demand a lot of playing time.

So we didn't get Mo after all. Can't say I'm entirely disappointed... He would have been good backup for Conley, but if there were ever a sure thing for an injury, he's it...

I'd be happy if our team stays as is now. The only thing I don't want (please, God, don't let it happen!) is for us to chase Harrington...
