I think we have a pretty good idea of what Ed Davis is.
low post scorer - negative
volume rebounder - negative
on the ball post defender - negative
If you require any of the above from your starting power forward?
PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE!

Ed Davis is essentially a thinner Stro Swift with a higher BBIQ. His limited skill set keeps him from being a consistent option on the offensive end, and his thin build limits his effectiveness on the defensive end (depending upon the match up).

Ed Davis hasn't been playing consistant for a while. When you don't play consistant on the floor, you won't get the minutes.

Jon Leuer and old Bob Thornton have been outplaying him. He's out of the rotation

Tenuous grip on the #8 seed. #9 PHX breathing down their necks. Maybe he'll see minutes against PHI.

No Fire, he will see minutes out of necessity, like Back to Back games, one of the front court rotation players is out of the game, a bad match up for the less athletic Jon Leuer on the defensive side of the court. He will be lucky to get anything near 5 mill a year at this rate, he is more likely to just sign the restricted tender and hit the reset button next year.

Ed is likely to seek another team in the offseason. He's better off on a team that more uptempo than the Grizzlies are accustom to. I think his chance in a system like that will boost his confidence and he's be better for it in the long term.

I dunno about how you guys feel about Pau Gasol, but I think it would be a good idea to do a S&T with the Lakers where you send Davis and maybe the 2014 first rounder/second rounders plus expirings. Do you think Pau would be a good option as a 3rd big back in Memphis? That could convince Marc to take less to hopefully stay in Memphis since he's vital.

I have a hard time seeing a trade like that be worth bring Gasol back. Especially now that he's 33yrs old and likely playing backup to Zbo. I know that Pau loves L.A. and would do anything to stay there. But givin the state of the franchise, he'll be playing else where, but not in Memphis. I wonder has he forgiven the fans for booing him after high expectations was placed on him to lead the franchise when he was the face of the team during his time here?
