Is he a point guard, shooting guard, or combo guard? I like versatility as much as the next guy but this seems like overkill: Baldwin, Wroten, Harrison, and now Daniels, so who is the backup point guard?

I think Baldwin, Wroten, and Harrison are all meant to fill the role of combo guard. They can all play alongside Conley, take over ball handling duties to allow him to spot up. From what I read Daniels isn't capable of defending SG or skilled enough to play PG, so the other 3 should complement him perfectly when playing alongside. They'll only have 16-18 minutes to backup at PG and maybe not much more than that at SG depending on how Vince and Tony are used, but I think last year showed us that we have to have more than 2 players capable of running an offense and need more positional versatility in case we are forced to trot out creative lineups.
I agree it is a bit of overkill, they're all 3 pretty similar players, but if I had to guess I would say Wroten is the odd man out. He is the worst shooter of the 3 and from what I understand, he only has $100k or so guaranteed on his contract. I expect him to be the primary backup PG until Baldwin or Harrison show they are ready, and not likely be with the team long term unless he shows quick growth as a player.

You would be correct. Wroten is the odd man out. He was waived earlier today by the Grizzlies.

You actually answered your own question. Similar and the worst of the three.

Why claim Wroten in the first place though? We already drafted Baldwin and I'm pretty sure the intention has been to sign Harrison since he agreed to play in the d-league for a year. It makes me wonder if we actually intended to use him as a veteran backup, but the organization couldn't even stand 3 weeks of him. If that's the case, he's probably done in the league. What a shame.

The NBA hasn't been kind to Wroten. His injuries and his consistent effort has not been 100% with the teams he has previously played. At this point, I think Wroten needs to consider playing overseas.
