Hoping we can make this a place to talk about JV's games with the Grizzlies. Loved his debut game. Tough second game, but it's gonna take a little while before he gets up to speed. As a lifelong JV fan, I'm looking forward to seeing him dominate with his new team.

If that's so, then first time for everything.

5 assists is a career high for JV. His career high in assists with the Raptors was 3. I'm interested to see how he does.

JV is painfully underrated and should be an offensive focal point for the Grizz

He needs to be the starting 5 next to JJJ. Rabb is decent but is too small to bang with larger centers. Put him back in his bench role that he was good at instead of yanking him a few minutes into the game. JB's rotations are questionable at best.

JV has been good thus far and I'd assume his hand is still bothering him some. His conditioning also is down so I'm pumped to see how he is playing in a few weeks.

This is just a guess, but as a raptors fan I thought we never appropriately made JV much of a focal point on offence. So when he did get the ball in the post, or on an oop, his focus was to finish because who knows when he'll get it back. Sometimes it was very frustrating, especially in the playoffs, when JV would be beasting, but for whatever reason we always went away from him. Glad he's averaging 20/10 for you guys so far, he's really a fantastic player & a great teammate too, and I'm glad for him too that finally he's being appreciated & utilized.

last Memphis game was very reminiscent of old raptors games when JV was a starter. They would go to him in the first, and he dominates, then he doesnt touch the ball ever again. At least in Memphis it seems like he is somewhat of a closer too, but its hard to say in a loss.

Shows you then that Casey didn't "hate" him. The Lakers decided to defend him better past the 1st quarter, and he wasn't as dominant on offense. It doesn't mean that I don't think Jonas should have gotten the ball more with the Raptors, but people created all these narratives about Jonas and Casey that was bordering comedy.

Also averaging over 2 apg since the trade - that would also be a career high.

So overall, since joining the Grizz, JV has set 3 new individual game career highs - points (33), rebounds (24) and assists (5). The Raps are going to regret this trade. They have been whining about lack of rebounding since the trade (duh). Last night against the Hornets, Gasol had 7 rebounds and Ibaka only 1. Despite all the talent on the Raps, Masai has messed up the team chemistry and the Raps are not looking like a championship team, with only 3 weeks to go until the start of playoffs. And the whole point of the firings/hirings/trades was to win a championship THIS YEAR, while they had their 1 year rental of Kawhi. Btw, a few months ago Kawhi dropped 13 mill on a house in Cali. He gone.

I think the trade made a lot of sense for both teams theoretically. I'm just not sure if this version of Gasol will be enough to move the needle for the Raps. We can argue who's the better player between the two at the moment (even though it's kind of pointless since they're very different stylistically and provide different things), but we kinda require Gasol to be significantly better than JV if we want to win the ring. Gasol's skillset is the better fit given the construction of the roster though, that's undeniable. Let's hope he really comes alive during the playoffs.

Really happy for JV too, he can really showcase what he can do, no longer trapped in a garbage man's role which never suited him.

I will admit before the trade even happen, I questioned the fit of JV being on the squad based on how he played in T-Dot. With the Grizzlies in rebuilding mode, JV has taken the opportunity to rediscover his game and has benefit from it. I'm glad to say that I was wrong and that JV is fitting in very well.

We didn't need to do anything to win a championship except show up and play to our potential. After the trade that isnt enough. Gasol isnt the same guy and jonas has been criminally underrated. Delon can play too.

He's also averaging 1.6 bpg with the Grizzlies. As a Raptor he was instructed to use the verticality and just bother shots instead of going for the blocks. As a consequence he was labeled as someone who doesn't protect the rim, when in fact he's one of the best in the league at that.

Here are the top15 big men who played at least 40 games this season and are defending at least 5 shots inside 6 feet per game, ranked by how strongly they reduce opponent's FG%:

P.S. Marc Gasol is #23 (-3.1)
