You still think Memphis are not angling to keep the pick?.

Stretching injury & sitting out Jackson for the year, is tanking 101. They know who the definitive keeper is.

After a big win vs Houston, the remaining key players are sitting with "soreness". Memphis were going to concede this game. There's reason behind being competitive against quality opponents & going 11 deep against the likes of Atlanta, sitting Conley with 6mins left in a tie game with Washington & resting all but one starter coming off a big win.

Dorsey showed out & of course Jonas put up 23/24/3/4 against the #1 defense since January to almost pull out the win. The tank was saved by poor officiating. Those 3 moving screen calls on Jonas in the 4th resulted in a 8 pt swing to help Magic claw back from being down 17.

Memphis left 9 pts I believe on the charity stripe shooting under 50% in a game that went to OT & other than Dorsey leaving time on the clock in the last possession, tie game. Memphis young depth options did very well.

Great question.

Honestly I think team management is incompetent more than anything. JB has been a terrible coach this season even when we were trying to win. His rotations more often than not don't make sense. People just kinda let it slide at first with nothing more than side glances since we were winning in spite of it, but then the wheels came off and it was sorta late in the season to fire JB plus would have been a bad look. Pera also may be looking to revamp the FO in some capacity so cleaning house all at once would be better. As for resting Conley, I think they will do that in almost every back to back game just to keep him fresh in hopes of preventing an injury/keeping him playing fresh to boost his trade value. The thought was that tonight's game would be easier to win than last night so that is why Conley is playing this game. In regards to JJJ, I chalk that up to them being extra cautious since he is the future of the franchise. Anderson is similar though to a much lesser extent. You don't want to risk anything with them since the prize is pretty meh.

All that said, I'm sure things will be reexamined often and they honestly could be flipping between conveying and tanking. I think they are trying to convey while being okay with the possibility of keeping the pick so are careful what they will risk to accomplish their goal.

EDIT: Further proof of JB being bad is how our team almost always gets beat in the 3rd quarter. Coming out of the half the opposing teams makes adjustments and JB flounders. We had a decent stretch of 3rd quarters lately but MIN just smoked us this 3rd quarter and that massive losing stretch was filled with us losing the 3rd quarter battle.
