Take it from an Atlanta fan, rookie Point Guards take a while to get going...

Very poor showing for Jonas. I'm aware he's coming off a foot injury. He looked slower than usual, out of shape & out of sync. A big reason for Memphis poor start. With Jonas not dominating Heats undersized front court offensively, they have a bunch of gritty wing players & defenders.

Jenkins seems to be asking players to expand their game & step out of their comfort zone. No better time than in a tanking year when wins don't matter. First play of the game was a Jackson & Ja PNR with Jonas standing in the corner for a 3, instead of Jonas & Ja PNR with Jaren set up for 3. Unfortunately, Memphis/Jonas don't have the reputation or wing consistency (5-32) to properly space the court.

I see some Grizz fans are upset about Ja's show boating but the mentality that drives it, is what makes him an alpha. He was on the wrong end of it tonight for a good learning experience but were talking about Winslow who is not only a seasoned young player, he's spent some time defending C's. So Ja with his slender frame won't face a stronger cover on either end. It was a tough physical matchup for Ja with officials controlling the pace of the game with endless foul calls.

Jonas struggled off injury, Grizz shot 5-32 from 3, had very little spacing & still put up 60 pts at the half against a gritty defensive team. They shoot 30% & Memphis put up 80 at the half.

If a top 6 pick wasn't the end goal, I would have been infuriated by the officiating. Looked like this crew was out to protect the 9 point spread. Heat had 34 FT's through the competitive first 3 quarters, not including all the extra possessions on inconsistently called travelling violations, which is yet another way for officials to subjectively control a game, like inconsistently called screens. No surprise when Heat caught fire in the 4th, those calls & FT's that hindered Memphis through 3 quarters suddenly, went away. Combined with the poor (5-32 3pt) shooting Memphis could not overcome the officials mucking up the game with endless foul calls. It's their way of controlling tempo for a gritty Heat team, taking away the speed & pace Memphis wanted to play at. Needless to say, it's what made the game frustrating to watch.

Finally, if Josh J can't take a wing spot on this roster, his NBA career is at an end. Outside of Crowder, it's a rotation of subpar defenders, poor decision making & inconsistent shooting.

Edwards, would be a nice addition.

I think we are in for quite a few more rough games like this this season. Ja and the other young guys (aside from JJJ's 3pt shot) seemed to not be doing too terribly until the 4th quarter when the bottom fell out. Some rough foul calls led to frustration and Miami ran away with the score. Hopefully Ja calms down a bit and gets some more foul calls when he is beat up around the basket. I look forward to seeing how Jenkins may adjust things this next game.

Question for Memphis fans regarding Ja. Is he a good three point shooter and if so is he a high volume three point shooter? I remember the scouting report on him coming out of college was a good shooter that has elite athleticism and can set-up his teammates

No and no. Shooting is the big thing he needs to work on. He seems to have the tools to be a competent shooter though likely never elite. Right now it is elite passing/vision and quick drives to the basket that make up most of his offensive game.
