Re: Game 34: Memphis Grizzlies (12-21) vs. Charlotte Hornets (13-21) - 8:00 PM ET
The first 3Q's was the officials trying to keep Charlotte viewers from tuning out of a national televised game. Twice Bizz knocked the ball out of bounds that they awarded the ball back to Charlotte, 25-5 FT discrepancy first half, some jokey travelling violation calls & Jonas weak flagrant to end the half that would have pulled Charlotte to within 3 possessions, single digits, from down 20.
In combination with the lopsided officiating, if it wasn't for some weak TO's (14) & poor 3pt shooting (28%) this 13pt win would have been a blood bath for Charlotte. Not many teams today can shoot 28% from 3 & win more less dominate a game but with Jonas & Jaren, Memphis are #1 in paint points. Like the Heat, Charlotte are weak inside, where Memphis is strong, which forced them to a 3-2 zone.
Give Memphis development staff some credit. Jonas had 5 assists in 20 mins, Jaren ripped down 12 boards & despite the 14 TO's, 28% shooting from 3, their shot selection & decision making has improved, 30 assists. Most of their 3pt misses were open to wide open, outside a couple forced shots against the 2-3 zone.
I know it was Charlotte but the team looked better with Anderson over Crowder starting. Loved that Jenkins tried Jaren/Clarke/Brooks/Melton/Ja down the stretch, it's the lineup I have been waiting to see play. Outside of Clarke getting muscled a bit, I though they did well for their first showing together. Liked the touch pass from Clarke to Jaren, you can see the potential chemistry between Jaren/Clarke/Ja. Nice

Not surprisingly, Brooks had an efficient 20pt night. When the #1 post scoring team gets production from their wing, they're a hard team to beat despite the 14 TO's & 28% 3pt shooting. Once Memphis tighten their play & improve their consistency from 3, they'll be a solid playoff team.
I could see them potentially making the playoffs & giving a high seed a scare. While hopefully retaining lottery odds for a potential top 3 pick, with some luck.

He's referring to Melton? because Jaren/Clarke/Ja played a few minutes with Allen & Brooks.

Jaren/Clarke/Brooks/Allen/Ja entered the game 7:30 4th Q up 97-87
Melton was subbed in for Brooks at the 3 min mark Grizz 111-96
In the 6 mins that Jaren/Clarke/Ja played together, 19-11 run when subbed out at the 1:30 mark.

Ja/Melton/Anderson/Clarke/JJJ is a lineup that quite a few media guys (and especially FastbreakBreakfast) have been wanting to see all season and that was the first time it has happened. Given some of the 3-man and 4-man lineups and their net ratings, this lineup should be one of our better ones as well as one of the more fun ones since Ja has two secondary playmakers to help keep the ball moving to make things happen. Ja also has four defensive guys surrounding him to help cover for him on that end of the floor. It also is a lineup of guys who should be with the team the next few years.
