Tried to find without posting Josh Jackson, sup with him?

Post#1 » by Darko Miliminutes » Fri Jan 10, 2020 4:43 pm

Trying to find information on Josh Jackson.

Plans for him, health, G-league action, legal requirements/suspensions, anything really. He gonna play this year?

I can't answer your question definitively but I can tell you what I Know & think.

-He's been suspended once for missing a team meeting. Other than that, no other reported issues. He's actually had positive feed back on that front.

-Crowder is both a potential deadline trade chip & expiring contract at Josh's position. Josh is 22 with tons of potential, that fits Ja & 3J's timelines as well as their skillsets. if he proves himself on & off the court. I'd assume he's a reclamation project they're attempting to salvage.

-He's averaging 22/8/4 in the g-league, shooting 38% from 3 on 6 APG.

-Based on the fact he's taking 6 APG from 3, where he's struggled most at the NBA level, it points to me that Memphis are trying to develop this aspect of his game for a potential fit in combination with monitoring his off court behavior before potentially promoting/signing him. Memphis aren't going to hand him anything.

-I also think by Memphis keeping him in the g'-league, it's impossible for him to showcase himself for a new contract. Any team that wants him will be weary both of his play & off court issues, which should keep his next contract reasonable for Memphis.

-I'd like to think we might see him 2nd half of the season but I honestly don't know.

I drifted over from ORL boards to see about another possible Fultz-type heist/story...he’d be great with Ja and JJJ. I love what’s cooking in Memphis. Low risk move on Jackson- could be gigantic upside.

Agreed. Wish I knew why we weren't taking a look. Someone speculated that Josh is killing it in the G-league so another team may buy into the production and trade for him, but that as soon as you bring him up to the Grizz and he struggles he loses what little value he may have generated. I still think I'd rather take a chance and see what he has. Even if he is ultimately just a bench piece, it would still help the team.

I've been keeping tabs on Jackson as well because I have him on my team in a fantasy league with contracts. He's a cheap one so it made sense to wait-and-see. I'm enjoying the Memphis renaissance and I like the moves they've been making. I don't see how Jackson can be viewed as a development piece though. They didn't pick up his option so he'll be a UFA at the end of this season. It doesn't make sense to give him minutes unless you think he's going to help the team now. I see some arguments in here about keeping him in the G league to keep his next contract cheaper or trying to create some trade value for him. I guess those are all possible, but I'm not sure that organizations work that way unless they're "The Process" era Sixers maybe. It would be nice to see Jackson get his head on straight. In that regard, I'm curious what the vets situation is in Memphis. I'm mostly thinking of all the young guys I like there, Morant, JJJ and Clarke. Other than Crowder, is there a guy that will help hold a slight to moderate headcase together?

@GrizzliesPR

The Memphis Grizzlies have recalled Josh Jackson from the NBA G League’s Memphis Hustle.

Jackson has appeared in 26 games for the Hustle this season and has averaged 20.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.4 steals and 1.5 blocks.

Can't wait to see his potential impact.

3J age 20 - 2nd year
2J age 22 - UFA
1J age 20 - rookie

Clarke age 23 - rookie
Melton age 21 - RFA

Iggy who's not playing, Crowder & Hill make the average age of this team deceiving, this has to be the youngest team in the league currently sitting in the playoffs. I just wish Memphis had more control over Josh's potential contract situation. I watched Bizz go from a throw away vet min signing to a 20m contract because Raptors made a playoff run with him.

If Grizz manage to make any noise in the playoffs, some team will throw stupid money behind the 22yo.

Now that JoJack has been recalled to the Grizz, I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do with his opportunity. Hopefully his time in G-League has paid off.

2 min mark Ja talks about Josh's situation. Says he been keeping tabs & has been in contact with him. Claims Memphis promised to promote him when the time was right & they kept their promise. Then he talks about what they're looking for in terms of his contribution. Defensive energy & getting out in transition.

Staying humble & appreciative.

How many players more less a rookie takes that kind of leadership role & initiative?.

Ja is wearing the leadership role very well. He will be the type of player that others will respect in terms to rally around him and play alongside him.

KAT wishes he had a player like this on his team.

Ja goes to UofM games as well as Hustle games quite often. Dude loves the game and supports other young guys trying to make it.

To me, Josh Jackson’s low IQ is the only concern and obstacle.

That's fair. I still look forward to seeing how he looks at the end of the year. If he looks decent but we don't want to bring him back we can always try and do a sign and trade to pick up an extra 2nd or two. I think he is showing enough to maybe be worth that to someone who doesn't have cap space.
