Do you approve this strategy - to gamble on players with serious healthy concerns following the “low risk high reward” principle? There are three already: Porter, Winslow, Tille. My specific questions are:

1. Do you approve?
2. If yes, would you feel the same if none of them ultimately turns into a healthy one?

I approve until a certain point (no more Parsons pls). It's not like players at their peak are lining up to sign for us, so we must go after young players and players that are seem as damaged goods

I also would add that right now is the time to swing for the fence on those guys since they don't really cost us much beyond roster spots. Once we are in more of a contending phase we should switch to using some of those roster spots for higher floor guys who can help more in the now instead of having quite a few young lottery tickets that won't pan out.

In my view, we should keep picking “our types” of guys regardless of how close we are to the title because I want our team to be sustainably good forever. I value our identity more than rings.

Given the position the Grizzlies are right now, I think they can roll the dice to an extent. Just choose wisely on the players they are taking their chances on. Otherwise, let's see who's going to be worth their skills set amongst these guys.

I'm not saying we should stop picking "our type", but I think targeting that type of player with maybe free agency and getting a ready to contribute veteran for depth may be more important than taking an extra swing on a late 2nd round pick when we are truly contending. And that is way further down the road when we are entering Ja an JJJ's primes that a switch in the experience level of players we acquire will matter. Until then keep targeting young guys instead of vets (we basically chose Sean McDermott over Anthony Tolliver since we could have made Jontay a 2-way).

How long is jjj out till? Been looking and it just says beginning of season? Any insight from y’all? I just picked him in a fantasy basketball league so I’m curious

We don't have a ton of info, but "Winslow will be out right as the season starts and JJJ will be out a good minute more than Winslow" is more or less what our GM said. They aren't rushing his return so he may be out a bit. Memphis is bad about putting out info on injuries unfortunately.
