Any reason why should we care about Josh Selby 2.0?

Because he is clearly not Selby. The guy is a walking bucket- can score in every way imaginable. He can pass, shoot, etc. I expect him to be a rotation player by the end of the year clearly. We will see, but what you are saying is not an apt comparison.

You can examine it statistically (by using basic stats), but it won't help you see the complete picture because his usage was 7th in the country his senior year overall. The defensive attention and draw that he received clearly opened the game up for his teammates and he had a shooting slump in conference play. His assist rate improved notably his senior year, and he was a monster in the pick and roll.

He isn't a 30% 3 pt shooter. In the G League, he has been shooting 44.6% from NBA 3. On his college tape, the degree of difficulty on many of his shots was insane. When he got into a rhythm, the guy was unstoppable.

If, instead of a undersized spectacular comboguard that I`ve seen tons failed in NBA, you find a high IQ 3&D small forward, I`ll join you in your overexcitement. Until then, I see no reason for feeling any regrets because this type of player isn`t what Memphis have been missing so much, to say the least.

Kyle Anderson? Lol.

We need a star and pop off the bench. This is a good gamble with next to zero downside risk.

I have no idea what meaning your "Lol" was supposed to deliver. Kyle is perfect - that`s a complete statement.

I don`t mind to have a star off the bench. I am only curious what has this gentlemen to do with that status, unless you argue there is some connection in which case I am surprised that his elite ceiling is noticeable only to you.

The lol was for levity because it is a message board so I can't discern tone. My point was that we have Kyle (and yes we could probably use another 3 & D guy), but why are we just looking for this archetype when we have a solid one? I think we are a few star players and a bench away. I don't think it has to do with position at this point, though the bench could use some punch.

I would say he has an extremely high ceiling for an undrafted player. That said, the principles I learned from following football also apply to the NBA. Opportunity is king. The leash is so much shorter for an undrafted FA coming off a stint in the G League vs. a first round pick. My point in bringing this up is that everything is not so cut and dry - bad or good. Some guys get a lot of opportunity. Others don't.

Do I think he has an elite ceiling relative to his undrafted status? Absolutely. In context, this means he is still coming off the bench. Fred Van Vleet was also undrafted and no GM noticed his ceiling. He played on winning Wichita St teams (one almost went undefeated).

I'll own it if I am wrong, but this one does seem a bit obvious after watching this guy for four years. It is ok that we disagree. Cheers.

If you want to go the athletic small forward route, what are your thoughts on Louis King? He is another no brainer pickup to me at this point.
