viewtopic.php?f=2&t=2118341

Let`s figure out together what is our depth chart.

I`ll start - you guys please provide your opinion next so that we submit our consolidated feedback, if you don`t mind.

Depth chart:

PG: Ja (35) / Jones (8) / Melton (5)
SG: Bane (22) / Melton (20) / Culver (6)
SF: Brooks (28) / ZW (12) / Bane (5) /Konchar (3)
PF: Kyle (25) / JJJ (10) / Clarke (10) / Aldama (3)
C: JJJ (20) / Adams (15) / Tillman (10) / Aldama (3)

Available:
JJJ for 2 unprotected 1sts
either Kyle, Brooks, Clarke for 1st
Jones for 2 2nds

Need:
A young franchise-level player for all/any above available players+ up to 7 1sts

Looking forward to your suggestions.

PG: Ja (32) / Jones (9) / Melton (7)
SG: Bane (25) / Melton (17) / Brooks (6)
SF: Brooks (24) / Kyle(14) / TBD(10)
PF: JJJ (17) / Kyle (15) / Clarke (16)
C: Adams (20) /JJJ (13) / Tillman (15)

- I think 32 minutes is a good number for Ja like last year. His frail frame doesn't need the stress of those extra minutes. He can increase his minutes in the playoffs as needed.
- I still think Brooks will get some SG minutes in certain lineups.
- I have Anderson also getting around half his minutes at SF.
- I really don't see Aldama getting any steady rotation minutes this year. Likely g-league and random trash minutes.
- I also only see one of Culver or ZW getting somewhat consistent rotation minutes. Both are likely ticketed for big G-league minutes and who ever performs better gets some minutes on the big club later in the season. They would take the TBD minutes at SF (may push all of Brooks minutes to SF if Culver players SG minutes). Until them guys like Konchar will likely eat those minutes early in the season.
-10-11 guys is already a lot of guys to get game consistent play, and guys like Clarke and Tillman really should be getting more minutes to develop and see if they can breakout. That is one of the biggest reasons I would be ok if we moved on from Adams. I would love to see Clarke and Tillman get 25 minutes, but with our depth I just cannot see it happening. If Adams is on the team he is going to get his 20+ minutes.

Regarding trades I don't think we can simplify this much. As you know 1sts even UP ones can vary drastically in value. Each trade is its own creature.

Like I would take 2 UP Det picks over 4 UP Utah picks.

But for JJJ I would want a gtd lottery pick (5-9) and another mid 1st.I honestly don't want to move him, but a return like this would at least not me make boycott the Grizz.
Anderson I would want expirings and a LP 1st. So a pick around 18-24 would be ok if we decided to move him. Same with Clarke.
For Brooks it would take a pick expected to fall in the 8-14 range for me to want to move him.
Jones for expirings a 2nd or two depending on the matching money if fine by me. Still like another ball handler though so I don't see us trading him unless we are bring another player in.

I am good with your approach aside from the ZW, Culver, Aldama comments. I believe our FO will do its best to justify their acquisition. In this context, I expect that your depth chart will survive the first half of the season because FO will try to increase the value of the available players. Once either or two are traded, then I expect ZW, Aldama and Culver will become truly rotational.

Awesome idea ESVL!

PG: Ja (33) / Jones (11) / Melton (4)
SG: Bane (23) / Melton (19) / Brooks (6)
SF: Brooks (26) / Kyle (12) / TBD (10)
PF: Kyle (18) / JJJ (12) / Clarke (16) / Tillman (2)
C: JJJ (20) / Adams (15) / Tillman (13)

-I think we will see some lineups (including opening night starting lineup) of Ja/Brooks/Kyle/JJJ/Adams with the closing lineup substituting whoever is hot for Adams unless of course Adams is the hot one. But as the season goes on maybe the starting lineup is more often the above instead of the Adams version barring certain matchups.
-I think Jones will play most of the non-Ja minutest still. Melton is improving but probably not quite yet the guy who take over as lead offensive guard. Melton/Bane/Anderson/Tillman with a 5th player does have enough passing to float through chunks of regular season games though and I think we will experiment with it.
-I think the plan is for Aldama to spend the year in the G league and I like that. He needs time to catch up to the speed of the game and we have others who would derive more benefits from NBA minutes such as Clarke.
-The TBD minutes I have as mostly ZW and Culver throughout the year though they may get eaten early on by three guard lineups with Bane or Melton counting as our SF. If Culver isn't looking good his minutes will disappear over time. If ZW starts to look good/ready for rotation minutes then his minutes will increase. I'm fine with ZW starting in the G league to have a chance to work on his skills with significantly less stress before becoming a permanent fixture of the Grizzlies main roster. Trades, injuries, rest games, and garbage minutes should help ZW and Culver increase their minutes over the latter part of the season.
-I love what Adams brings to our team with the loss of JV. Yes he is overpaid and a negative contract, but he will still be very helpful for us and a meaningful contributor. That said I hope he doesn't block Tillman from decent minutes or JJJ from minutes at center. I think it will ultimately be more of a game-by-game thing with certain matchups leading to more Adams minutes and others leading to more Tillman or JJJ. I think JJJ will get a lot of the closing 5 minutes though.
-Could see Tillman get the occasional minute or two at PF but kind of expect most extra PF minutes to go to Clarke and most extra C minutes to go to Tillman.
-I would be very hesitant to trade JJJ for picks without knowing the value of at least the nearest pick. As he plays this season and we get a better look at him that could change, but I don't want to trade him for what may be a mid lottery pick and change as I think JJJ is still our best shot at being a 3rd star and maybe even our 2nd star if he truly maxes his potential (which I don't expect). I would want a solid chance at a star if we move him.
-Anderson I would move but I would probably want top 10 protections on the pick so that I have a chance at a late lottery pick. Otherwise we can resign him next offseason and keep him around considering he is versatile enough to fit most any future iteration of our team.
-I really want to see how Clarke's shooting form looks this season, but if it is less than ideal I am good with sending him out for a 1st.
-Tyus for two 2nds is fair, but we need to have a way of getting a competent backup PG either in the deal or afterwards.
-Brooks I would want a pick that projects at least for late lottery. He can be frustrating with his shot selection and probably shoots more than he should, but dude was built for the playoffs and I think his overall shot attempts will go down when we get a true 2nd/3rd piece to go with Ja and JJJ.
-Agreed that by far our biggest need is another young franchise level player to add to Ja and ideally JJJ. It just is hard for one to shake loose. I wonder if the FO will try to get involved in a Simmons trade in order to either get Simmons or to get one of the pieces Simmons returns in another trade. I think Simmons would be good for us, but we would need another high level offensive player unless Ja and especially JJJ go supernova.
-Bane I think could expand his role a little this season so that could be an underrated boon for our offense.
-Injuries, trades, or rest could clean the depth chart up a little as the season progresses.

I think Aldama spends pretty much the whole year in the g league so that he can adjust to the pace of the league while fine tuning his skills. The FO cares more about doing what may be best for the long term of their players as opposed to optics a la Winslow and JJJ being held out for longer to try and help them stay healthy even though the FO took a lot of flak for it.

ZW is supposed to be raw. Him having time in the g league to start with limited minutes playing in Grizz games is expected and probably good for him. I do think he will be in line for regular rotation minutes by the end of the season though.

Culver will get the opportunity to earn minutes in some capacity and I expect how he plays will determine a lot. Towards the end of the season he may see an increase though just so that the FO can get a good idea of what they may or may not have in him like they did with Winslow.
