Fought hard to get to OT, but we looked pretty gassed after that. I know Utah has been playing very poorly of late, but I really hope they don't find a way to be our first round opponent.

As luck would have it, the W they got last night clinched a playoff spot for them and eliminated the possibility of us seeing them in the first round

And now they are welcome to lose their last few games in order to give us the best pick possible this draft ha. Too bad the Lakers are horrendous seeing as we no longer have any chance at getting that pick.

Re: Game 79 : MEM @ UTA
So is it actually impossible or just highly unlikely? My understanding is that the two teams in each conference knocked out of the play-in still have low odds at securing a better pick.

After the play-in tournament is completed, the 14 non-playoff teams go into the lottery just as it has been conducted the last few years - i.e. weighted odds with the first four draft picks selected in a lottery and the remaining picks (i.e. picks 5 through 14) set in order of record. Right now, the Lakers have the 8th worst record, so three teams would have to leapfrog them in the lottery selection for us to get the pick at 11. It's not impossible, but it's something like a 0.40% chance.
