Dillon's Future with the Grizz

Post#1 » by jman3134 » Fri Jun 3, 2022 6:38 am

Do you guys think he's on the trade block? Anything to read into with him unfollowing everyone on insta and changing his bio?

I think it is probably just from online harassment (esp after how tumultuous that Warriors series was), but you never know. But, it could be some form of agent posturing to get to a spot he wants if they know a deal is imminent.

Fwiw, I don't think this proves much and is super speculative without anything concrete. Still, Dillon's future with the team imo has to be a question mark after this year's playoffs. His teammates definitely support him, but will the front office be looking for a versatile 3&D upgrade?

I think he is far from untouchable, but I don't see us moving him just to move him. Like you said the guys seem to like him plus we'd need to replace his defense if he is moved. It is doable, but not an easy task. Will be interesting to see what we actually end up doing this summer. If we extend Clarke at a reasonable number (or wait on the extension) and of course give Ja his max, we still could be close to a max spot next summer if we don't add any long term money aka no Brooks extension, Tyus multi-year deal, and no multi-year MLE acquisition. I don't know if we want to keep kicking the can down the road, but it is certainly an option.

As I have kind of hinted, I agree that Tyus resigning is the top priority. Low key, I believe that Kyle is extremely undervalued for this team as well and I would love to resign him to a more team friendly vet contract. Doesn't mean we don't bolster ourselves on the wing in the draft though. We need guard/wing length defensively and versatility. Love both Dalen Terry and Gui Santos for this.

Do you think there is anything to the social media activity? I know from football that players usually do this as some form of contract negotiations. The strange thing is Dillon is already under contract though.

I have no idea. Sometimes guys just do this in the offseason, sometimes they are trolling, and sometimes it means something. It is hard to say especially since we didn't get a media exit interview to see where his mind is at.

In my view, Dillon’s stamina and balls, his pure GnG’s character have contributed a lot into our young core’s development. It is arguable though whether those skills will still be necessary for his fellows going forward.

My thoughts will Dillon is that he still has time left as a Grizzly. Once Zaire starts to better his game overall, that's when I think Dillon will become a trade candidate. Either by the February deadline or a S&T deal next summer offseason.

The problem with waiting for a SNT next summer is a lot more teams are currently scheduled to have cap space. A good chance Brooks walks for nothing. So if we want an asset from him then the best time to trade him is now. If he plays better then we are likely keeping him at the deadline, and if his shooting doesn't return then the deadline offers are not likely to be great if we try to flip him then.

Brooks is like a broken record, if only his shot selection and thus percentages could improve and his usage drop 3-5%, he is a very good team fit. But if he is unable to take an offensive back seat then we are going to have to move on from him unless he takes a leap there.

Like a co-worker of mines have said about Brooks that he thinks he's better than he already is. That's an issue of Brooks. Brooks on an elite playoff team is either a fourth option or sixth man material. Don't get me wrong, I don't mind Brooks. It's just that he gets into that streak that he thinks he that shooter who can knock down anything when he has issues with his consistency.

I'm of the believe that he won't be traded right now. I can see the deadline next season. That depends on what happens with Ziaire's development. If Ziaire shows more improvement within his development as the season moves forward, then I can see where Dillon gets move. Plus with Ja's supermax on the horizon. The Grizzlies have to be on their Ps and Qs on the salary room they have plus the money they have to offer these players to afford on the roster.
