I think ZW is set to be the backup SF at least for now. I think Roddy will be the third string SF for us.

I am legitimately curious what will happen with Brooks long term. His defense is better than stats indicate. He is an agent of chaos that can swing games for you. But he also can just as easily swing games the other way. Will he accept being the 4th option on offense and just focus on defense? Maybe. But if not we may need to move on from him at some point.

I worry he will try to take on more than he can chew on offense during a walk year..

I like Konchar a lot and I am perplexed by this contract. He didn't get meaningful playoff minutes and we sign him to a pretty large deal. Why not match Kyle if he was playing over Konchar?

Those are very legit questions. I am trying to answer to them to myself. Kyle wasn’t a part of our future due to some mobility and 3pt shooting issues. I got it. Konchar doesn’t have these issues - I got it. But Konchar’s role he played last year looks like easily replaceable with a FA veteran or a rookie. Which brings me into an idea that FO sees his role expanding in future to the extent where 8 per annum will look like a bargain… which means he has managed to convince FO that his athleticism is on the rise, and they likely get a light version of Hayward or Klay pretty soon… Any other explanations?

The other explanation is that there is some cognitive dissonance within the Grizzlies organization between what the Front Office envisions Konchar being and what the coaching staff believes he is right now.

I like Konchar and hope he plays more from here on out. I did think that Kyle's impact wasn't often felt on the stat sheet and that they did judge him because of his slow, deliberate movements, which is what makes him unique. He has an incredibly high IQ and it certainly helped our team a lot last year, though he really should be open to completely reconstructing his shot in the offseason with a shooting coach.

The last option is simply that someone within the Grizzlies front office is pulling for him.
