Draft Night 2024 Memphis 9th Pick

Post#1 » by VCfor3 » Tue May 14, 2024 12:03 am

So what do we do? I realize it depends on who is available and there is no telling how the draft will actually go. The mocks are all over the place aside from Sarr likely going first.

Castle, Klingan, or trade down and into next year's. There are a ton of raw, lengthy wings being projected late 1st/2nd. Taking a Shannon and or N'Faly Dante would be ideal if they are available 2nd round. Instant contributions.

If we draft Castle and steal Clax, we would form arguably the best defensive clutch squad in the history of NBA in Smart-Vince-Castle-JJJ-Clax. I just cannot imagine how to score against them.

I think I've seen reports that we may trade up, trade down, or trade the pick for a vet at this point lol.

All I can predict is that it wont be Clingan. Those reports mean nothing. Our FO keeps all info inside. We have to wait - that’s the only option I see.

That's one thing I can respect about the Grizzlies FO is that they keep their valid info again from the public forum. We will know when it's time to know.

As for predictions, I'm more on the idea of trading the pick along with the player to see what the Grizzlies can get back in return. They do have a large window that should remain open for a while as the roster is still young.

I concur. I only hope it is the second option behind the primary one involving Claxton.

I would not be opposed to Dalton Knecht. We need win now pieces and he fits from a shooting/scoring standpoint. We are in win now. N'Faly Dante is bring crazy slept on due to perceived injury risk. Draft him in the 2nd and thrive. So switchable on D it is insane and he is uber efficient with his touches.

Looks like Nic Claxton is off the table for the Grizzlies as he agrees to return to the Nets on a 4YD worth 100M

The Grizzlies select Zach Edey as the 9th pick in the draft. Open discussions ppl!

Not the direction I would have gone for sure, but we will be interesting. Wish we would have traded down if this is the direction we wanted to go, but not always a trade partner available.

Another concern of mines is that Edey only played bball for six years. This reminds me of another center the previous FO regime did when they selected Hasheem Thabeet years prior. He only played bball for a few short years. Playing at UConn masked how raw he truly was. He was exposed once he hit the floor. I wonder how Edey will look in the post playing next to 3J and how his fit will make the Grizzlies either a bigger threat or will he underwhelm before our very eyes.

I think he will have to develop a true 3pt shot to justify this pick. If that happens then I think on offense this will be a great fit and allow JJJ to roam on D again and have a dominate rebounder. We have to change our D back to more of a drop coverage when he is in the game but that is not the end of the world. His combine agility numbers are promising but his in game reaction time seems slow to me. But maybe with more coaching that can be improved upon since he is rather new to the game like you stated.

Thabeet never won college player of the year twice and drop 37 points on the 7th pick of the draft. You guys just got the rookie of the year.

Yeesh...such silliness. Grizz took the best player easily.

The comparison is definitely flawed. Hope you are right about the ROY.
