What do we expect from the Grizzlies in the 2025 NBA Season?

Grizz fans!!!

I am a fan of what you guys have going on with Memphis Basketball. I'm excited to see you guys come back and upset the order in the West. H3ll, I'm excited at the thought of Grizzlies moving to the Eastern Conference and stirring things up there, too.

I'm curious, what are you guys predicting for yourselves and the rest of the league in 2025?

Code: Select all

I believe that the Memphis Grizzlies have the potential to be a top-three team in the Western Conference. The only team that I’m putting above them is the Oklahoma City Thunder, Ja Morant, let’s not forget who he is; let’s not forget that we took a whole camera crew, all of ESPN, all the elites, to go down to Memphis to eat some of the good barbecues to cover his games. This has potential to be one of the top-5 starting lineups in the league this year.

I think the prevailing feelings for Memphis fans are we are going to be a top 6 seed team with a good shot at top 4 in the west. Health is the only thing that can keep us out of the playoffs. Vegas has us at 46.5 wins so these takes we keep seeing are not hot takes at all, it would be more shocking take to say we miss the playoff again. I think with decent health we can get 50-52+. We have the roster that can survive a few injuries and still pull on wins versus last year we we just decimated and our youth just wasn't ready to step into the roles we needed.

Completely agree. It'll mostly come down to health for us this year. Having GG, VWJ, and possible JJJ sidelined to start the season isn't a great start ha.

I think that we'll finish somewhere between 43-48 wins if we manage to stay somewhat healthy. The last time that we were healthy, we finished second in the west; however, that team had Dillon Brooks and Steven Adams in the starting lineup. Now, we're starting Marcus Smart and rookie Zach Edey in their respective places. Although Smart is entering year two with the Grizz, he didn't get many reps with Ja, Bane, and JJJ last year. I have high hopes for Edey, but, like any rookie, I think that there will be growing pains. In this western conference, spending a few weeks to a month working through these chemistry issues could be costly - particularly when the schedule at the start of the season seems to be one of the easier stretches for us (in terms of opponents' strength).

Beyond needing some time for the starters to gel, I still have concerns about the depth and bench as well. We've got a few too many tweener wings, we're a bit short-handed on true bigs, and we lack an experienced back up PG for the roughly 15-20 games you can probably pencil Ja in for missing (even in a relatively health season). Tyus Jones and Xaiver Tillman aren't exactly setting the world on fire, but they played important roles for us and contributed to winning when they were here. I think Pip the Younger can continue to develop into a solid backup PG, but Jay Huff as our only true backup C is ... underwelming.
