Well, I dunno about the weeping part
It seems pretty rediculous that Damon's agent said in the story that Stoudamire shouldn't be benched because of the Grizzlies record.
What's that all about? If players can't be benched for losing ballgames then what CAN they be benched for?
I need an agent, I think.

you dont bench players for losing you bench them for performance
which he hasn't been doing

Much rather have him than Conley Jr. if we're not completely giving up on the season. We should have traded him earlier anyway. Three point guard rotations with everyone sharing considerable time never really work.

don't lose him for nothing
Is he something to get a value of something in return than a nothing for nothing?

On the C's board we were already speculating a long time ago (probably September & October) whether Stoudamire will receive a buyout or not. He is the kind of backup point we need, and we are 2 players shy of the maximum. So you can only guess where he would wind up.

Boston could be one of the potentials. So are Cleveland, Detroit, Miami, and Philadelphia as well.

Just cut him. Damon's washed up. Has been for about 5 years.

I don't think he would even consider Miami and Philly. At this point of his career, he just wants a title. Boston is the #1 option for that.

I don't see anything to weep about. We should be jumping in the air and clicking our heels together. Unfortunately, this barely registers above waiving Kinsey. Getting rid of Damon is no real change.

Buy him out. Boston picks him up to backup Rondo. Everybody happy.

If we buy him out don't we take a cap hit this year and next? But if we trade him (for example for Ira Newble to Cle) for an expiring his numbers could be off the books immediately.
Just wondering how buying out someone with more than the current year remaining works.

If the Grizz bought out Damon, he would go to the Cavs before the Celtics. The Cavs could offer him alot more playing time and a chance to go deep in the playoffs.
That being said, I don't think the Grizz will buy him out. The Grizz are not in the league to help everyone else out.
My two cents from a Celtic fan.

How about this trade?
Memphis receive Wally
Heat receives Damon & M. Miller
Seattle receives Parker, Davis, Zo (to be waive) & two 2nd pick from the Heat
For the Grizz
The difference in talent between Wally and Miller is not much which means the lost of Mike will not hurt the Grizz but instead they get enough cap space for 2009 with Wally

The owner has come out and said they will try to accomodate him via a trade if it is beneficial to the Grizz. He said he is not buying out any more players after he did it last year with Eddie Jones.
The GM has said that the deal has to make sense for the team and financially, so don't expect any long term deals coming back this way.
The Grizz will need to extend Rudy Gay & Kyle Lowry after next season when Damon's contract would be coming off the books along with Stromile Swifts.

I don't think it's a cap hit per se, rather his salary would remain on the books for cap purposes for 08-09. This is the ordinary outcome, I believe, but then the CA mentioned this today:
Stoudamire is under contract through the 2008-09 season. He is scheduled to earn $4.65 million in the final season of a four-year deal he signed in 2005. Stoudamire's contract is also laden with language that determines his salary for 2008-09 based on the minutes he averages this season.
http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2008/jan/04/stoudamire-seeks-way-out/
So if the Grizz were to bench him for the rest of the season and then buy him out, his salary figure for cap purposes for next year could be significantly lower.

Would you take
Joey Graham + Juan Dixon (from the Raptors) for Damon?
This has been proposed on the Raps board.
