cvernon.com: firesale coming?

hey guys....

some interesting thoughts from chris vernon tonight....and a brief mention (or hint) at a Pau to Lakers trade....

cvernon.com link

Remember that verno has been pretty solid so far this year with getting griz news, so maybe what he says here has some weight...

here is his latest blog post...
According to the CA and cbssports.com, the Grizzlies and the Nets are talking about a deal that would send Stromile Swift to the Nets for Jason Collins. I believe this to be completely true. I don't know if the deal will take place for sure, but I would think there is a really good chance. I don't even give a crap about that deal to be honest.

What I do care about is the deal that also may come in the next few days. I don't think that we are going to be as happy as we once thought we would be about a Pau deal. I have pontificated on the fact that a fire sale could be coming so that Heisley can save money and position the team to sell it. I think he wants to be able to sell to someone and be able to pitch that they will takeover a product with quite a bit of flexibility that they can do whatever they want with. Unfortunately I think that Wallace was hired to carry out this plan. I hope I am wrong.

There is nothing that Heisley has done in the past 2 years to indicate that he is doing anything but cutting back on all costs. Saving money is what this franchise is about now.

With that being said, look for Pau to be part of a deal that brings back a big expiring contract. If what I think may go down, goes down, people are going to be really pissed. Have you ever considered what Kwame Brown would look like in a Grizzlies uni? I am just asking.
firesale? wow....

at the end he hints that pau may get traded for expiring contracts and that it could be to LA for Kwame (and more obviously)....

now, Wallace has stated many times that expiring contracts only for Pau is not acceptable....maybe he was lying...

If what Verno says turns out to be true about Stro for Collins. It's a horrible deal to say the least. The Grizz would might as well get Greg Ostertag out of retirement while there at it. On the subject of a firesale. Why didn't the Grizzlies do that last season when they were in season dump mode? Too much yo-yoing going on with this team.

Gasol and Jacobsen

for

Brown, Ariza, Vujacic, Turiaf, 08 first, 09 first...

Meh...

Stro for Collins makes me ill. Collins costs more and next year is guaranteed.

I agree, but I seriously doubt that the Wiz would do that...

That at least opens up the possibility of crumbs - Ariza, Kristic for example - coming Memphis' way.

The thought of shipping Pau off for beads and trinkets is depressing the hell out of me.

On another note, you've taken Wallace to task over his comments in regards to not trading Pau for expirings. IMO I believe that Wallace was being sincere when he made those statements. My gut's telling me that it was Darth Heisley that laid down the law that this would be the direction to go.

ya.....

now making wallace's earlier comments about NOT trading for just expirings jive with this new information is difficult....heisley is the easy answer i guess....

ugh...

No way does Washington consider that offer.

What would you guys think of Kwame Brown, Lamar Odom and a 1st round pick for Pau Gasol and Brian Cardinal.

Nope - Personally don't want Odom.

I'd just as rather see something along the lines of

Pau and Jacobsen

for

Kwame, Turiaf, Ariza, Vujacic and a first

of course, this was before I was aware of the Cult of Turiaf. Funny as heck to see folks on the Laker board saying that Turiaf's inclusion would be a deal breaker - LMAO...

Some things are important to fans and Turiaf represents everything worth watching basketball for me.

I'm one of those who feel it's a deal breaker. His salary means nothing to the deal and we are not the one's in any desperate position, just a bit of a rough stretch with injuries, but otherwise we have a solid team without any changes. If we could get Pau for cheap, great, if not oh well...move on.

That is fine with me, but I don't see you guys moving Pau without Cardinal. To trade him means Odom has to be involed for salary purpose.

I think it comes down to Odom, Kwame and a 1st + $3mil cash for Pau and Cardinal. Kwame expires and Odom is a valuable trading piece next year or over the summer because he can play and he expires next year.

I do agree that our fans are a little crazy when it comes to Turiaf, but he's a breath of fresh air in this league...a hustle guy with talent to be a legit starter...

he's not a dealbreaker for me like he is for others, but I'd take on Cardinal if we could keep Turiaf out of the deal...if not, I'd refuse to accept radioactive contracts...
