I'm a Laker fan. And although as much as we love the signing of Gasol, loosing a bright young player in J-Critt was a bit sad.
Most of us Laker fans believe that J-Critt will one day become a legit starter in this league, if not even a future possible All-Star in the making. A lot of Laker fans saw J-Critt and Bynum to be our future.
He's very creative off the dribble, like a young Steve Francis (but humble), plus he's got the range, the quickness, the flash, the athletics, and the basketball IQ to be good in this league. The only reason this rookie isn't getting playing time is because of Jordan Farmar's breakout sophomore season. But Phil Jackson (known for hardly playing rookies) has said countless times that he wants to find minutes for this rookie because he knows he's something special.
In short... you guys are gonna LOVE J-Critt.

Too bad he'll never play because they have CONLEY AND LOWRY.

Farmar is better than him.

Don't try to show us your pity or give us your rationalized crap.
Crittenton is a bitch compared to Gasol. And he may be put at the SG spot, but bottom line...the Memphis Grizzlies were absolutely raped in this deal.

How is he defensively? Can he guard the 2?

If its any consolation Javaris crittenton will be GREAT.
he was one of the biggest steals of the draft. He outplayed farmar easily in this summer league
Within two years he will be at the level of a brandon roy/deron williams guard.
Marc gasol, who i am also very sad to see was the MVP of his league for over 2 months. He's going to be very good as well.
Although the lakers made out like bandits as of now, in a few years this trade wont look so bad.
Miami looked like it was at the better end of the shaq deal, and now, it is clearly apparent that shaq wasnt worth it.
I dont think pau will end up like shaq did, but within time youll realize that the deal wasnt that bad, you got capspace, A VERY GOOD guard, who was ranked as a better prospect than conley coming out of highschool.

Kind words - the Grizz were still violated though.
Oh, and Marc Gasol isn't exactly beloved here in Memphis.

You mean to tell me trading Brian Grant, Odom and Caron Butler (who the Lakers promptly dealt for Kwame Brown) wasn't worth a
CHAMPIONSHIP!
Whatever bro, you're delusional. Miami raped LA in that deal.

yeah, they got one championship
that they didnt even earn. the mavs choked, and the heat had the refs on their side. The heat are now one of the worst teams in the league, and shaq looks terrible out there.
The lakers trade at the time was terrible, and now, is decent. you forgot to mention that the lkaers also aquired a draft pick that went on to be used on jordan farmar.
The deal was essentially odom, grant (terrible to absorb but time constraints forced it), caron butler, and jordan farmar.
If the lakers didnt make the mistake of trading butler, that would have been an amazing deal. Odom, butler and farmar.
I respect your opinion, but to call one delusional is a bit extreme in this case.
odom butler and farmar. thats talent.
lakers fumbled butler, but no doubt, if they managed things right post-trade, that would have been a very even deal.
The sheer fact that the refs gave them a championship doesnt mean much to me, they didnt earn it, and they look TERRIBLE now. but who knows, maybe the heat are actually good, and shaq is an allstar, i dunno I'm delusional apparently

This is a must know. If he can guard SG's we can get a bit more positives, after we pull our pants back up.

This is not a sympathy thread. At the beginning of the season I asked who you'd rather trade Gasol for, Butler or Bynum? That thread was locked because people think it was outrageous. But looking back, it would have been a genius move for you to trade Gasol for Bynum(you probably won't believe me, but I was one of the few, maybe the only Lakers fan that wouldn't have made that trade, from the Lakers perspective).
While I don't see the same potential, I do see starter, if not even All-Star potential in JC. Heck, we'd easily give you Farmar in place of him if we could. If he works really hard, this trade won't be as lopsided as you think.
Someone also pointed out the Shaq trade. Often times, you have to wait to see how trades like these work out(a lot though, depends on the work ethic of the young players you're getting back)

Oh, please. You can try to blame it on the refs (which is a lame a$$, sour grapes excuse) but no matter what the Heat have a championship banner hanging from their rafters. They won the trade, end of story.
Oh and yeah, you're still delusional. Especially if you think a title is invalid because "it doesn't mean much" to you.

are you kidding me? Miami was a one hit wonder, they won a ring, then got swept out of the playoffs, and are now THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAGUE
Miami 9 35 .205 27 5-17 4-18 4-22 1-8 92.8 99.9 -7.1 Lost 2 1-9
any heat fan would likely trade shaq for caron butler right now. A heat fan would trade shaq back for lamar and farmar.
Shaq quickly went from MDE to 14 and 8. Those still arent bad, but he's only gonna get worse.
Let us remember that although the lakers SUCKEd that season after, they picked up andrew bynum from that draft.
In essence the loss of shaq, and its negative effects on our record paid off greatly.
but 14 and 8, he has THREE MORE YEARS LEFT.
60 MILLION DOLLARS. 60 MILLION DOLLARS.
would i rather have the lakers i have now(even pre gasol) a few years out, than have 1 mediocre championship?
the heat are THE WORST TEAM IN THE LEAUGE, paying a deteriorating 14 and 8 player 60 million dollars for 2 and a half more seasons.
Come on, whats a championship worth when you are worse than the NY knicks and the twolves.

What's a mediocre championship? That's a bit of an oxymoron.
If you'd rather have a team fighting for a bottom playoff spot than a championship, I really don't know what to say. The Lakers must have a propaganda minister for you to believe that trade was a win for LA.
Come on, whats a championship worth when you are worse than the NY knicks and the twolves
Last time I checked, a championship means you were the best team in the league that year. Something the Lakers haven't been since they dealt Shaq for Caron and crap, then proceded to deal Caron for crap.
I'd like you to go to the Miami board and ask them if they would give the title back to have Caron Butler. I want to see the responses.

Imo, the biggest piece in this trade is the expiring. Critt will not be a special player in the league and maybe not even a starter IMO.
he has short arms, doesn't have a great jumper or body control when going to the hoop.. he is athletic, but not off the charts, and his handle is average.
not starting pg or sg material. i think he can be a good backup guard b/c he seems to try and get people involved and has ok lateral movement, he also will be able to post opposing backup points, so thats a plus.
