I sort of doubt Memphis dumped Pau Gasol so they could then use the money they saved on a a 6'3" SG.

They had their premise for just salary dumping Gasol. Following that by paying big bucks to someone like Monta would totally defeat the original purpose of that trade.

The Griz are already stacked with young guards, I'd throw the money at a big man like Okafor.

Monta not coming to the M-town. Just wishful thinking.

Assuming we ditch Mike Miller, we will need a 2... Monta Ellis has shown glimpses of being an All-Star this year. More importantly still, he is a perfect fit for our system. What should we spend our money on if not young, talented, with huge potential basketball players?

Nope - make a big offer to Ellis, GS matches, then the Grizz turn around and sign Biedrens. Biedrens' numbers aren't quite Okafur's, but Andris is almost 4 years younger...

So you just traded Pau Gasol for Biedrins, Crittenton and 2 bottom of the barrel 1st round picks.

I'm not sure what kind of path you guys are taking by doing that.

Good lord, I'm not talking about maxing Biedrens. If Golden State wants to resign Ellis and keep its current core, especially Davis, they won't likely be able to keep Biedrens too.

While if we were to make a run at Monta Ellis, it would basically be the end of JCN in Memphis as you would not commit that many dollars at one position.

This years wish list of potential signings is:

Josh Smith
Omeka Okafor
Jr Smith
Mykael Pietrus

I think Okafor is the only one looking to command more than 10 per year.

I think every Grizz fan wants to eliminate the need for Josh Smith by getting the #1 overall pick.

I still think it is much more likely the Grizz use most of their assets (including cap space) to get another top 5ish pick in this draft. Much like how Portland and Chicago started to build their young core. You just hope your players show more star potential like Roy/Aldridge vs. just being good players like Deng/Gordon.

Biedrens>Okafur IMO. Again, already similar numbers and Andres is four years younger. He should also come cheaper.

I like the idea of having Biedrins...

Biedrins is basically a double double guy playing only 27 minutes per game. Hes also only 21 years old. We have heard a million times that memphis needed to get rid of Gasol and that they were not going to get equal value. We all agree that the original trade was lopsided so there is no reason to bring it up when deciding how to use the cap space. 12 million wil not get you an arenas, brand, or marion which is the caliber of player that would be needed to justify the trade.

With that said, picking up young talents like Monta or Biedrens would be the best option for this rebuilding franchise. I think playing a similar FA game that landed Odom in Miami would be the only possibility of GS giving up one of their young stars.

If the Grizzlies had to choose between Ellis and Biedrins, the choice is Ellis. Ellis might be more expensive, and not helping us with rebounding and defense, but Ellis could become a superstar, and unlike Pau Gasol, he would be bankable in Memphis. Golden State's willingness to match a deal with Ellis might force a move like sending Mike Miller to Golden State in a sign-and-trade. We'd have to overpay Ellis, but being from Mississippi, Ellis would fit in Memphis.

If you bucked the odds and got the #1 (Michael Beasley) or #2 pick (Derrick Rose - trading Mike Conley), I'd more be more adamant about getting Monta Ellis, we us having a younger, more talented version of what Golden State does now.

Imagine this lineup:

Conley.Crittenton
Ellis.JCN
Gay.(Rush or Tyler Smith?)
Beasley.Darko.Cardinal
Thabeet.Gasol

All that needs to happen is for us to get the number 1 pick, sign Ellis, and trade Miller (and Lowry if necessary) for a lottery pick. Probably a lot to ask to happen in conjunction, but all independent scenarios are possible.

No offense, but how does Gasol fit into the scheme?
