What Do You do with the 2nd pick in the draft?

Post#1 » by UNC's Diddy » Sun Mar 23, 2008 3:24 am

It is all but decided that Beasley will go number 1 and it is widely assumed that Rose will go number 2. You guys have 3 young points guards so drafting Rose would seemed redundant. If you land the 2nd pick in the draft do you think your management would draft rose then move Conley (To Portland?) or Lowry (to Philly?) or would just trade the pick ot move down and get another young asset or go a different direction with the second pick (Brook Lopez, Eric Gordon, OJ Mayo).

Heres a thought I have been throwing around in my head...

Say we pick #2 and take Rose. That would most likely mean Conley is out the door so now we trade Conley and the Lakers pick for another pick in the 7-10 range, we would then pick Jordan to be our C/PF of the future.

C-Milicic
PF-Jordan
SF-Gay
SG-Miller
PG-Rose

Say we did pick Rose #2 overall, would you do this (trade Conley and another asset for a 1st rounder)?

Drafting Rose - YES

trading Conley - YES, particulary to Portland if we throw in the second 1st pick we have to get LeMarcus Aldridge. Portland may not want another pick because they are not high on getting any younger but getting Conley as a possible point guard of the future to pair with childhood buddy Greg Oden will not hurt. Aldridge is fluid enough to fit in any system we have going forward and the nucleus of Rose, Gay, & Aldridge is very nice to have.

No way in heck Portland offers up Aldridge for Conley. It'd be a boon for Memphis, but it's just not going to happen. However, for arguments sake if Portland would do that deal, I'd do it even if we ended up with the 3rd - 5th pick. LA > Conley.

That doesn't look bad at all, except that I'm a little confused about the picks. Is it supposed to be the 2008 13th pick and 2009 pick? If that's the case I didn't think that you could trade your first round picks in back to back years.

I like this Zack.

But I think the 2009 1st is a bit much for Porltand to give up.

Perhaps a 2nd rounder or 2010 pick would be better for them.

I mean they are taking back Brian Cardinal and while Miller would be an upgrade for them, he's more of a scorer at the 3 than the complete player they would like to have at SF.

I would be ok with just getting the rights to Fernandez..but I doubt Portland does that..so we might have to take him out and go with another future 1st.

ya, 2008 is what i meant....

the trade would be agreed upon on draft night, but not official until July 1 or whatever....

portland would select for us at #13, just like houston did with rudy....

the rules forbid trading consecutive 1st round picks in advance (or any 1 year more than 5 years in advance), but nothing stops teams from trading their 1st rounder ever year after making the selection.....

so, it would be legit.......if we made the trade at the trade deadline in feb, it wouldn't be....

Take Rose, and then trade Conley + the Lakers 1st for the best frontcourt player possible (either an 08 draftee or a young NBA vet).

I highly doubt that your idea of the "right" offer would land Rudy. No offense.

rudy would only be traded in heavily lopsided deal towards the griz......

with anything that could be considered an even trade, we would just rather keep Rudy.......

JCritt is on the first year of his rookie contract. Of our guards, Mike Miller will be the one, IMO, most likely to be traded. However, it's apparently not like we're trying to dump him for expiring deals or anything.

We'll see what the Grizz's plans are closer to the draft, when the draft position has been laid out.

So if you guys get Derrick Rose in the lotto, I know the Bucks would love to get mike conley.

Would you do conley for the 7th pick?

If necessary we can also throw in CV so you have some more depth at PF.

Please help the Bucks, we need a REAL pg.

PS:

From conley's rookie year, do you still have high hopes for his potential?

Dunno - I guess it would depend on the talent left to choose from and whether or not we could get something better for Conley or Conley packaged with Mike Miller (for example).

From conley's rookie year, do you still have high hopes for his potential?

Oh yeah.
