on the blazers of course. If we can draft Rose, trade conley to the blazers for lamarcus aldridge. I like it, do you?

I don't see Portland making that deal. However, to say that Aldridge is a "far better player" isn't necessarily right either. Look at Aldridge's first year numbers compared to Conley's rookie season. They are VERY comparable. If Conley improves at a similar rate to Aldridge...

Who knows, certainly not the experts. This is Chris Wallace we're talking about. Hell, after hearing him on the radio the other day professing man love for Brooke Lopez, I wouldn't be surprised if the Grizz took him with the first pick

How about a trade like this?
Portland Trades:
Jarrett Jack (a PG - to either use or trade to another team)
Josh McRoberts (a young prospect with an expiring contract)
Raef LaFrentz (Large expiring to make salaries work)
#13 Pick (Late Loto pick to find some decent value)
#33 Pick (early second round pick to take a flyer on a pick)
Memphis Trades:
Mike Conley (the centerpiece of the trade)
Jason Collins (expiring contract to make things work)
Brian Cardinal (the "price to pay" to get Conley)
#28 Pick (Late 1st to keep Portland's options open for additional trades)
This boils down to:
1) Jack = Conley (at least for last season)
2) Conley's potential >> Jack's potential
3) Portland's contract filler > Memphis' contract filler (due to Cardinal for about $6-mill)
4) #13 >> #28
5) #33 > nothing
Memphis would have a lot of options available drafting in the top 4, #13, and #33.

Conley for Outlaw and Portlands pick (#13?) is pretty equal
I realize Conley was a high pick, and I think he will be very good, but Aldridge is already very good, and he's 7' after growing.
Outlaw is already good, and in an up tempo offense could be a great PF. He along with Jack and #13 would be adequate if not great value for Conley.

No, it wouldn't. No matter how you characterize it; trading one stud prospect for three lesser ones is not a good deal. It's the reason why Portland fans balk (rightly so) at the idea of packages cobbled together from lesser pieces for the likes of LMA, Oden, or Roy.

Thing is, players don't stay 'stud prospects' for very long. Conley already flat out doesn't look like he should have been the 4th pick. The sheen is already coming off that rose. Look in the difference of opinion on Barganani from year 1 to year 2. Pass on the deal if you like, but remember you might settle for a lot less if you wait too long.

Obviously, the situation changes as the player progresses (or doesn't progress) - which leads to the possibility of "buy low" or "sell high" occuring at this moment, but only capable of knowing with 20/20 hindsight a few years from now; but at this point, Conley's numbers compare very favorably to Deron Williams' rookie numbers and (1) Conley played less college ball and (2) had injuries sporadically throughout the year that kept him from really finding a groove.
Question: If you think Conley is going to bust, then why are you (Blazer fans, not you individually) so interested in acquiring him?

Well in that case....We'll take Oden for 2 reasons:
1) Oden and Conley are best friends, doesn't hurt to keep the little guy happy, and 2) Because we smell a deal. We know Oden's a risk (out all year with an injury), but we'll take that risk and see what happens.
