1) Trade GS-MEM

MMiller
for
TPE, #49

2) Trade GS - MEM

Draft rights to Marc Gasol
for
Draft rights to Marcus Speights (#14)

3) Offer Josh Smith 5 years $13.5mil/year

4) Offer JR Smith 5 years $4mil

Players 08-09 salaries (14 roster spots)
Smith $13.5 mil
Darko $7.0 m
Collins $6.2 m
Cardinal $6.3 m
Smith $4.0 m
Mayo $4.0 m (DRAFT #5)
Conley $3.6 m
Gay $2.6 m
Warrick $2.1 m
Robin Lopez $1.8 m (DRAFT #14)
Critt $1.3 m
Lowry $1.2 m
Bill Walker $1.0 m (DRAFT #28)
Richard Hendrix $.5 m
Stoudamire ~ $2.3 m (Still counts against the cap)

Total salaries = $57.4 million (should be right about the cap # this year)

Lineup:
Conley/Mayo
Smith/Critt
Gay/Walker/
Smith/Warrick/Hendrix
Darko/Lopez/Collins

There is a some insurance in the backcourt due to the fact that Mayo and Critt can play both PG and SG (at least they think they can).

Problems:

1) What are the chances that Josh Smith actually hits the market, and even if he does, what are the chances that he actually chooses to play in Memphis regardless of salary? I think the second one is an easier hurdle than the first since he, I think, is still on his rookie deal meaning that he hasn't made much money to date.

2) I don't think JR Smith could be had for $4mil/year.

3) It doesn't look like Mayo will be available at the 5th pick, unfortunately. Maybe we could swing some deal to move up with Lowry as bate, though. Doubtful, I think.

4) Even if we luck up and get Mayo 5th, I think we would be better off playing him at the 2 (probably starting since I don't think we can sign JR).

5) You seem to have a contradiction in that you wanted to take Speights 14th and then you put Robin Lopez at that pick?? Either way, I think I like Gasol more than either of them from what I've read about his season overseas.

Nice one GM, but thanks to the FO I have given up on bothering with elaborate trade ideas. I try to keep them as simple as possible.

Yeah... I was teetering between Lopez and Speights. The issue is that they are cheaper than Gasol. Signing Gasol would put the Grizz over the cap if signing the above two free agents.

I would rather have Gasol... but it is looking like his contract will have to begin somewhere in the neighborhood of $4mil/year.

Forget Lopez/Speights and draft Chase Budinger* at #14
Forget JR Smith and sign Gasol for $4Mil/year.

Lineup:

PG- Conley/Lowry/Crit
SG- Mayo/Budinger/Crit
SF- Gay/Walker/Budinger
PF- Smith/Warrick/Hendrix(or Hometown-boy Joey Dorsey)
C- Gasol/Milicic/Collins

*I have 101% sure that Budinger will be a steal for anyone who take him beyond #10... NBADraft says he is a Grant Hill with 3PT Range...a player like this is a bargain at #14

M.Gasol>>>Marcus Speights and/or (#14)

I think he is already better than Darko. I havent seen a lot of things in Darko. I mean, he is a good rebounder and can defend. But, i can see more things in marc than in him.

The talk on the radio this morning is that Mayo seems intent on playing PG in the NBA... if that is the case, I think drafting him at 5 could be bad for the team. It is one thing to draft Rose to replace Conely, Lowry, or Critt as the PG of the future, but I don't like the idea of Mayo playing PG.

If you don't draft Mayo at #5 do you take Gallinari? or trade down and try to take Love or Gallinari later?

I agree Barba, but I think Budinger will fall out of the top 10 due to teams taking a chance on Randolph, Lopez, and Jordan. He would be a great selection as a true SG.

I'm with you barba except to draft Gallinari:
PG- Conley/Lowry/Crit
SG- Budinger/Crit/Gallinari
SF- Gay/Gallinari/Walker
PF- Smith/Warrick/Hendrix(or Hometown-boy Joey Dorsey)
C- Gasol/Milicic/Collins

Agreed GM...Maybe Galinari is the 4th best player in the draft, but I don

If I am going to draft two players in the top 7 it would be Love and Bayless if available at #5 if not then Mayo... or trade down for Budinger.

If Mayo isn't playing the 2, I think I'd rather keep Conley.

Should have known it would be another ridiculous trade thread.

Here's a trade idea:

Memphis trades the Grizzlies to some other sucker city.

Should have guessed... Double Dribble passing judgment without giving constructive feedback! WOW... what a shock.

Here's an idea... can we trade Double Dribble to another board?

there isn't anything constructive about any of these worthless trade "scenarios".

Yeah... So why do you keep coming back?

Had I known it was another stupid trade thread, I wouldn't have. Typical of most Grizzlies fans, though, you seem to prefer dealing with fantasy hypotheticals instead of reality.

there doesn't have to be. The activity of reading/posting around here is something most of us deem "recreation" or "entertainment". Perhaps you should view it as such and you wouldn't be so inclined to spew venom.

Then again, maybe doing what you do on these boards (well, this board anyway) is entertainment from your perspective.

Because the title was so very misleading.

Aw, still don't have anything else to do with yourself these days besides this?

Are you a Grizz hater, a self-loathing Memphian, or both?
