Memphis Improves thru Seattle and Philadelphia

Post#1 » by pardon_my_interruption » Sat Jun 7, 2008 10:22 pm

I have always thought a package of Mike Miller and something would be entertained by Philadelphia in a deal for Iguodala.

I would think with Philly's need for a PG and a shooter that Memphis may have the necessary pieces to get a deal done.

I wouldn't want to give up Conley and don't think Lowry would be the PG they are looking for so if Iggy and his agent were willing to look into sign and trade options (provided Memphis were willing to meet their demands) we are in a position to get them a PG by moving up to #4 with the Sonics who are looking to trade their pick.

Assuming Mayo goes #3, we could then take Bayless for them at #4.

Trade 1 w/Seattle

Jason Collins, Kyle Lowry and the #5 to Seattle for Chris Wilcox/#4/#32.

Memphis takes Bayless and we have the Sixers take Marresse Speights at #16. Speights projects to be a decent scorer at the PF position and according to his scouting report he is very effective at the Pick and Roll which we will most likely run a lot of with Conley, JR.

Trade 2 w/Philadelphia

Mike Miller, Hakim Warrick, rights to Jerryd Bayless to Philadelphia

Andre Iguodala (Sign and trade) and the rights to Marreese Speights to Memphis.

Grizzlies could then use the #28 on a big (Devon Hardin)

2008 lineup

PG - Mike Conley, Jr./Mario Chalmers (#32)
SG - Andre Iguodala/Javaris Crittenton
SF - Rudy Gay
PF - Chris Wilcox/Marreese Speights/Brian Cardinal
C - Darko Milicic/Marc Gasol (50/50)/Devon Hardin (#28)

** Memphis then Sign and trades Navarro for depth at SF. Preferrably a player with an expiring contract and a future draft choice.

That's a sweet wing combination and Speights could become an all-star. I think it's fair, if Gay and Iggy could fit with one another

I noticed one major problem with the premise of this trade: doesn't Seattle badly want a starting PG, too? If that's the case, then I think it would be tough to convince them to pass on Bayless for Lowry - especially when their pick at #5 will likely be yet another big man.

I've said this before and I'll say it again. You're going to learn to stop making these elaborate trades once you acknowledge what team you support.

Now why would Seattle give up a young starting PF (Wilcox) for two backups off a team that only won 22 games? Also, why should they give up the 4 and 32 to move DOWN one spot? I think you have this seriously backward.

The Seattle trade has been panned.

How about these alternatives.

Collins/Lowry/#5 for Donyell Marshall/Johan Petro/#4

Or

You can take Twin and Marshall out and just do...

Lowry/#5 for Petro/#4/#32

In all fairness to PMI, this post went up before the trade thread was started.
