Is this possible?

Am I completely insane for thinking this could be the Grizzlies' roster next year?

Conley/Crittenton
Ellis/Rush
Gay/Cardinal
Beasley/Warrick
Milicic/Gasol/Collins

By the way, the additions would be:
Monta Ellis, Brandon Rush, Michael Beasley, and Marc Gasol.

sign Monta and Marc Gasol.

Trade miller, lowry and #5 pick to Miami for #2 pick and filler.

Draft Rush or anyone who can play back-up sg at #28

It would take some work, but it seems possible.

Does anyone like this team?

How do you end up with Beasley (top 2 pick) and Rush (mid teens pick)?

You have to have a plan.

Yeah, I'm a bit confused myself.

Still, I do like the idea of grabbing Brandon Rush. He is my favorite talent in this draft and I do hope we at least make a run at him by trading down.

It's serious wishful thinking that Rush would fall anywhere near 28. If he did, I would be jumping for joy. It's not going to happen though.

Realgm and Nbadraft.net both have Brandon Rush going at #26, so #28 is not that much of a stretch. However, Bill Walker or CDR would be good replacements if Rush was gone and they were still there.

Not to say that I know more than them, but those are so far off in the twilight zone.......words can't even express. Unless he gets injured again, I do not see it happening.

Walker should be available at that point, but I expect CDR to go a little higher. Still, both are possibilities.

Miami can't just add Miller's salary + Lowry so who's the $10 mill +++ coming back from the Heat?

Rush probably goes between 16-22,pretty unlikely to last to 28.

Memphis won't renounce rights to their draft picks,Navarro and whatever...which they have to do before they could make a realistic bid on Ellis. Then...When the Warriors match the Griz are really screwed.

i was beaten to this post.

Monta could be a Max Deal or S&T(JCNand Warrick).........
one has to think he would love to come back home........MEm could even offer up a yearly pre-season game in jackson, ms to attract him.

I love the Beasley Trade Idea.... Very Possible.

But if the draft holds true to nbadraft, we are looking at a lineup of

Scenario 1

Conley, Lowry
Ellis, JCN(resign), Crittendon
Gay, Miller
Love(#5), Warrick
Milic, Dorsey(#28), Collins

Scenario #2

Conley, Lowry
Ellis, JCN(resign), Crittendon
Gay, Miller
Warrick, Nathan Jawai(#28)
Lopez(#5), Milic, Collins

Isn't there someway to use the trade exemption to match salaries when you are trading draft picks?

no, the TPE doesnt work that way

and the Warriors would not S&T Ellis for JCN and Warrick... Ellis is worth more than those two combined

You do all realize that JRICH was traded to make room for Ellis... and on top of that, I dont believe your owner moved Pau's contract for Ellis'... case in point, why the the Warriors wouldnt do a S&T and take back your extra player that the Warriors dont need

its a pipe dream for MEM

Give me 30 minutes to put a pencil to the numbers then I'll come back and post them and several scenarios.

by grizzleGM
Conley.......3.630
Critt........1.382
Lowry........1.164
Gay..........2.579
Miller.......9.000
Cardinal.....6.300
Collins......6.200
Warrick......2.119
Milicic......7.000
#5...........3.500(est)...#2...$4.800(est)
#28..........1.000
Stoudamire...2.300 (I think this is close to his cap number for 2008-2009)

Total Salary Cap amount: $46.174 million

We can only assume that the cap will increase to $58.2mil (that is a 4.69% increase same as last year)

Signing Gasol will be in the area around $4mil if the Grizz have to beat European offers.

This would only leave the Grizz with about $8mil to offer Ellis. So if Gasol is used in a trade on draft night, then I would expect the Grizz to be going after a FA in a big way...

As far as the Beasley option the numbers would change slightly.

I think to get Beasley the deal would be:

MMiller, Lowry, Collins, #5, 2010 Lakers 1st (16.363 mil 08-09 salary #s)
for
Blount, Banks, Cook #2 (12.799mil 08-09 salary #s)

this deal saves the Grizz $2.3mil on the 08-09 salary cap.

The number would be ~43.8mil

This would allow enough room to offer Ellis a $10mil 1st year deal and offer MGasol $4mil 1st year deal.

The lineup would then look something like:
Conley/Critt/Banks
Ellis/Cook
Gay/Walker#28/Cardinal
Beasley#2/Darko/Warrick
Blount/Gasol

Without a trade that gets the Grizz another $2mil in cap room, the Grizz will not be able to sign both Marc Gasol and have a chance at signing Ellis.

The Grizz would immediately become a team in the right direction for the future with Conley, Ellis, Gay, and Beasley. That's a very good core to move forward with!

and I would like to add I think there is a 1% chance that the Grizz end up with Beasley, Ellis, and MGasol in Grizz blue.

I think that there are many players that GS would part with before losing Ellis. It's nice to think about, though. =(
