IF.............

Post#1 » by boogiesdad » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:42 pm

lets play the realgm game............

based on possible trades reported via the latest news:

The Nuggets and Grizzlies are reportedly discussing a trade that would involve both players and picks, according to The Rocky Mountain News.

As it currently stands, the rumored trade appears to have Memphis sending Kyle Lowry and the No. 28 pick to Denver for Linas Kleiza and the No. 20 selection.

Linas is a 6'8" 245lb SF avg 11 ppg and 4 rpg in 23 mpg

Marc Gasol has been signed to 3 years at $9 million.

Draft

#5- Kevin Love
#20- Brandon Rush/Rush

Conley/Crittendon
Miller/Rush or CDR
Gay/Linas
Love/Warrick
Gasol/Milic

I wonder if the deal is not larger and includes Miller going to Denver also.

This could be done by adding Camby or S&T JR Smith. If it is JR the deal would have to be done after the draft.

With the same rumors in mind, I like this scenario better:

Sign Gasol
Lowry/#28 to Denver for Kleinza/#20
Sign Mickael Pietrus
Draft Kevin Love #5
Draft Courtney Lee #20

Conley/Critt
Pietrus/Lee
Gay/Miller/Kleinza
Love/Warrick
Milicic/Gasol

Warrick and Miller would be trade bait to pick up another 4.

Now, taking it one step further, should Mayo fall to 5 (which won't happen, but hey...)

Sign Gasol
Lowry/#28 to Denver for Kleinza/#20
Trade #5, Miller to Miami for Blount, #2
Sign Mickael Pietrus
Draft Courtney Lee #20
Draft Beasley #2

Conley/Critt
Pietrus/Lee
Gay/Kleinza
Beasley/Warrick
Milicic/Gasol

My problem with trading Lowry is that I think the Grizz have to get a back up PG besides Critt. I don't think Critt will ever be a PG in this league (I hope he proves me wrong). If we could land Pietrus in the FA market, I like the idea of taking CDR with the Grizz's 2nd first rd pick.

Then the Grizz could buy 2nd rd picks.
Take Omer Asik (leave overseas for the final two years of his contract)
Sonny Weems as a 3rd SG who I think could be a decent SG in the league.

My scenario:
Sign Gasol
Lowry/#28 to Denver for Kleinza/#20
Miller, Collins, Critt to Portland for #13, Raef, Jack
Select Love #5
Select Chalmers #13
Select CDR #20 (partially a homer pick)
Buy 2 2nd rd picks
select Omer Asik & Sonny Weems (Bill Walker if available)
Sign Pietrus or JR Smith

Final Roster:
Conley/Jack/Chalmers
Pietrus/CDR/Weems or Walker
Gay/Kleiza
Love/Warrick/Cardinal
Millicic/MGasol

That is a very young core team to move forward with. They might only win 25 games next year, but that's okay.

I'm in favor of the Miller, Mayo for Beasley, Blount swap if it happens, I just don't see the Grizz getting that lucky!

ok lets try this:

The DEN deal goes through,

we can't get Mia to trade down.

We push #5 and a 2009 #2 to NJ for #10, #21, and #40....Kevin will not fix alf our issues by any means, so this makes since.

And since we are not going to be playoff bound at all next year,lt's clears somemore cap room for Mr. Heisley, by trading Miller and Cardinal to CLE for Wally(Expiring) and #19. Even counting Gasol's signing and all of our picks this year, we would have under $40 million in committed salaries for next year, and almost $20 million in cap room.

Draft:

#10 Anthony Randolph PF
#19 Mario Chalmers PG
#20 CDR SG
#21 Barandon Rush SG
#40 Joey Dorsey PF

Lineup:

Conley/Crittendon/Chalmers
Wally/CDR/Rush
Gay/Kleinas
Randolph/Warrick/Dorsey
Gasol/Milic/Collins

While it won't scare anyone, it will get us a top 10 next year. Plus if we save our money this year and bite the bullet we will have $20 million to spend.

But he has sooo much Strotential®

I like parts of his game. But it appears that his BBIQ and weight/strenght are all in the crapper.

Who says that his BBIQ is in the crapper? That is totally untrue.

I was frustrated and disappointed with Kleiza the college player, but obviously it was because our coach sucked ass. What could have been... I'd love to have him on the Grizzlies.

are you talking about Kleiza? 'Cause I would love to see him in a Grizz uniform, but Randolph's old coach (Brady) did not speak very highly of him when he was on Chris Vernon's show a couple of weeks ago. That always scares me when a coach is not all positive about their experience with a player. That is the thing that also scares me about Jordan.

Well, there are different aspects of basketball IQ. In terms of feel for plays, it can be expected that he would not be on par with a college senior. But, that can be said about many of the young freshman talents in this draft.

As for presence on the court, he seems to have a decent feeling for the game when the ball is in his hands. He is pretty versatile and possesses the ability to shoot from the midrange and defensively can guard a wide range of players. I feel that the Villanova-LSU game more than anything, demonstrates his value to his team. (meaning he makes decent decisions while on the floor, contributing to the success of his teammates) Once he fouled out, with like 8 minutes left in the second half, Villanova went on a huge run to defeat them at the last second. Sure he is raw, and maybe he does not have an understanding of different plays, but when he is on the floor, he can create his offense pretty effortlessly. His passing ability and handle are still raw, and this accounts for his large amount of turnovers per game.

All the talent in the world is world is worthless if you can't listen to the coach and play as a team. And hence the team that drafts him will be dealing with Strotential.

MEM Trades:

Mike Miller
#5

UTAH Trades:

Boozer
#23
#43

Now lets say MEM does the DEN Deal (Lowry,#20 for Linas, #28)

We Draft:

#20 Mario Chalmers
#23 CDR
#43 Sonny Weems

New Lineup:

Conley/Chalmers
CDR/Crittendon/Weems
Gay/Linas
Boozer/Warrick/Cardinal
Gasol/Milic/Collins

It may be me, but thats probaly our best lineup ever, and we really don't need a big FA signing.
