Rumored deal: NYK and MEM

Post#1 » by randomhero423 » Mon Jun 23, 2008 8:38 pm

"Even stronger are rumors that the Grizzlies are talking to a number of teams, including the Knicks, Blazers and Suns, about deals that would send the No. 5 pick to whomever is willing to take Brian Cardinal's awful contract (2 years, $13 million left). The latest buzz has the Knicks talking to Memphis about a deal that would send David Lee and the expiring contract of Malik Rose to Memphis for No. 5 and Cardinal."

do you think this goes down? what do you think of the deal? us NYK fans love it.

Of course NYK fans would love this deal. Us Grizz fans do not love this trade. Cardinal's contract is not so bad to justify this deal IMO. See above thread (5th Draft pick).

Rumor (slashing payroll) denied by Memphis GM

http://www.cmimemphis.com/grizblog/

This deal would be to slash payroll only. Sorry Knicks fans.

Okay, I'm not really sorry...

I would take a bad contract (13mill/2y) for a 5th pick. No matter if my team is mem or NYN. So, al we already have it, i cudnt do this trade.

The deal on the surface sounds like a New York Post special straight from the desk of Peter Vescey.
The Grizz are not trading the #5 to move down, they would however trade it to move up. The first ten picks are too rich with prospects to just move Brian Cardinal's contract. It would not make any sense. The team will have close to ten million in unused CAP space that they will not be spending so why make much such a dumb move. Don't get me wrong I would love to have David Lee but not at the expense of the 5th pick.

For what it's worth, there's a similar rumor flying around Portland from Chad Ford. It apparently is the Raef LaFrentz and the #13 pick for Cardinal, Collins and the #5 pick.

These are STUPID deals that only save one year at $6mil. Sorry but that is stupid to move down 8 spots for $6mil. That could be the most expensive $6mil that Heisley has ever 'made'.

Its not so stupid if you guys are looking to make a big Free Agent signing

if i am correct from reading this board..u guys have about 5-7 mil of cap space open

save 6 million

and that turns into- 11-13 million (i also think he is being paid 7 not 6...but im probably rong)

So Ya, makes more sense then you may think,,,, but only if you were looking to sign a big FA for next season...if not...then i think its pretty dumb

David Lee is still a proven NBA player and is very good and still on rookie contract

only reason knick fans like this..cuz we want to be under the cap...and Lee is due for ane xtension...if we werent looking to get under the cap...i wouldnt do this trade...because IMO...Lee is the better pick to have, then the 5th pick

5th pick could be good...but could also get you a bust...proben nba talent is worth the risk of losing a 5th pick IMO

NO... the Grizz only save money for the summer of '09 FA class. And we only save money if the Grizz don't sign Lee to an extension. This deal is absolutely ludicrous. If this is what Wallace and Heisley want to do, then I would suggest trading MMiller, Cardinal and #5 for Raef Lafrentz. This clears a hell of a lot more money off the books for next off-season and solidifies that the Grizz will be the worst team in the league!

If the Grizz value Outlaw (As was rumored but also consistently denied by MEM fans), how would a deal like this seem..

Raef LaFrentz, Travis Outlaw and #22-#27 (Aquired in a seperate deal for Jack and #33) for Jason Collins, Brian Cardinal and #5.

Memphis then uses #22-#27 along with #28 to seleect two of DeAndre Jordan, Robin Lopez, Marreese Speights, JJ Hickson, JaVale McGee, Alexis Ajinca. Probably something along the lines of JJ Hickson and Alexis Ajinca.

PG- Mike Conley Jr./Kyle Lowry/Javaris Crittenton
SG- Mike Miller/Javaris Crittenton
SF- Rudy Gay/Hakim Warrick
PF- Travis Outlaw/JJ Hickson
C- Darko Millicic/Alexis Ajinca

Sorry... my post was a joke. Memphis is not giving up the #5 for salary cap relief with Raef!

Yeah, you would have to take out LaFrentz for that deal to even be considered.

Lafrentz is a big expiring contract. That's why he's in the trade. To take Brian Cardinal's contract. I'm sure we'd send $3 million also.

#13, #33, #36, $3 million cash, Outlaw, LaFrentz for Mike Miller, Bryan Cardinal, #5

That wouldn't be too terrible for Memphis, if they really want to save a lot of money.

Picks #13, #28, #33, #36.... Take the best player available with each pick.

Miller and Cardinal make $16.5 million next season, Outlaw only makes $4.0 million.

If Memphis can draft well that trade could end up great for Memphis, as it would give Memphis a ridiculous amount of cap space next summer.

Still wouldn't be interested, from a fans point of view.

We badly need quality over quantity. I don't see us trading down more than a couple spots if at all.

No way in the world does this deal go down! What a joke...If the Grizzlies were that bad, they would have sent MMiller to the Heat last year for expiring contracts...
