Cap space for what? Will the Grizz be shopping at the same place they "spent" all the cash they received from Eddie's expiring deal? Yeah, that's what I thought.

HOWEVER, although it will NEVER happen, wouldn't it be cool to move down to get the 9 and 20 and shed BC's contract - draft a 2 at 9, and sign JSmooth :)

i'd do anything to get the cap space to be able to sign josh smith.....

anything....

but if the reason for whatever asinine decision is reached at about 7pm tonight is for 2009 cap space, i'm going to punch a hole through the wall.....

I am trying very hard to be understanding regarding the decisions that have been made. I am trying to believe that Heisley will spend if the right person or deal is available. I am holding on to the fact that everyone realizes that the product has to improve yesterday and not tomorrow. If we go thru tonight and make boneheaded moves with the promise of CAP space in 2009, I would wash my hands of the organization and live a more stress free life. I left the NBA when MJ retired and only took a more active interest upon moving to Memphis the year prior to the Grizz, so the separation will not be difficult.

I just don't think you can make a decision tonight to have max space next summer.

Deron and Chris Paul will be locked up this summer and Bynum is the only other player that could be considered a max guy.

The only vets that could be considered are Elton Brand and Shawn Marion. This team doesn't need either of those guys.

So they can give Gay a ridiculous contract.

might as well put it here...

chad ford said that except for the possible beasley deals.....all memphis trade ideas are cost cutting and he thinks an accountant is running the draft....

some possible one:

--5 to NJ for 10 and future pick
--5/BC to charlotte for 9/20/?
--5 to portland for 13/outlaw

i like the portland deal, actually

But that is in 2010... that is why the Grizz can't be a player in that FA market.

We have the option on his third and fourth year, so I would think a new contract could be offered? Maybe I'm wrong.

The Grizz will exercise the third year of his contract this year, then next summer will offer him the big contract, but it doesn't mess with the 09-10 cap space.

I sure hope we do not overpay for Gay. I do agree with you DD that Gay is not a franchise player and that we should not overpay simply to pretend as if he can become one. I love the guy and think that he can become a star, but this is no reason to offer him max money.
