On to my question though. The salaries posted on this hoopshype.com earlier today had Walker down as having a team option next year, and then a guartaneed year the year after that. I emailed the site staff about the possible problem, and it seems they are trying to make some changes, but they obviously haven't fixed it yet. Can anyone tell me the rough amount of Walker's contract is and when team or player options are present? I'm mainly concerned with whether he has team options on his last two years and can thus be considered an expiring contract.. Thanks for the feedback guys. I posted this on hoopshype first, but that Grizz site seems pretty inactive lately.

Yes - For all effects Antoine is an expiring deal. His money is off the Grizz's (or if he gets traded, whoever's) books after the upcoming season.

Yes... the way I understand it, the site has it correct.

If the Grizz accept the team option, then the last two years are guaranteed. There is not a team option on the last year.

If the Grizz decline the option for next year, then the contract terminates and is over. There is no "guaranteed year" for the year following the "team option" year if the team declines the option year. So yes, he is an expiring contract.

Besides, to further confuse you, it is actually a "player option" that is available to Walker and not a "Team Option". But .....

Before Walker can exercise his "Player Option", the Grizz can "Waive" him, because according to his contract, the last two years are only guaranteed if he is not waived before 6/30/2009. Since hoopshype doesn't have this as an option, it simply listed it as a "team option", because the effect is the same, except that if the Grizz still wanted Walker (yea - I know it ain't happening), then Walker could elect to become a free-agent at the end of this season. As a MIN fan that frequents the Trade board, I hear this question all the time, and I'm impressed how thoroughly the MEM posters understand the situation. They have it exactly right -- for all intents and purposes, Walker is an expiring.

For the sake of being complete, since the OP mentioned using hoopshype, I'll mention that Buckner's hoopshype info doesn't portray him as an expiring, but he should be considered one as well. The final years of his contract can be bought out for $1 mil, so in effect, this deal netted MEM $13 mil in expirings.

Yes, you are correct sir.

Jaric is really the only contract we're stuck with but, we were already stuck with Cardinal whose production was, for all intents and purposes, non-exsistent. At least Jaric can actually play, Cardinal doesn't have knees anymore. Jaric is a year longer than Cardinal's and is a little larger but, worth it to rid ourselves of what we did and to get Mayo, our most needed position.

Another 'Sota fan here. Jaric is one of those players whose outsized contract and trade history with our team caused him to bear the brunt of a lot of fans' dissatisfaction. He's overpaid for what he is, but if you can get past that on the court he has some value.

The paradoxical thing is, the guy wants to be a point guard and he just plain isn't quite there. Even on the Wolves, who resorted to starting two quasi-PG types for much of last year because they didn't have anything like the proverbial "pure" one, he was a marginal starter at best. On the Grizzlies' current roster? You have a few points; had you noticed? Marko is very possibly going to be pushed to the role he's objected to up in Minnesota: utility bench guy who can handle 1, 2 and 3 as needed. He'd be functional in that role -- he's a disruptive defender, he can pass some though he forces things, and so on -- but darn it if the man didn't get glum about how that had worked out up here. We had multiple moments when Marko would speak up about his role in one way or another.

It would be cool for things to work out with Jaric. Had the Wolves not sent Sammy Cassell and a first rounder for the guy, fans up here wouldn't have made him a pariah. In terms of head case and potential locker room irritant, Jaric has to be somewhere between Walker and the incoming Mayo, whose just-barely-shaky reputation is mostly hot air.
