The Memphis Grizzlies announced today in a statement to RealGM and other media outlets that they have signed free agent forward Darius Miles. Terms of the deal were not disclosed per team policy, but it is believed to be a non-guaranteed contract.

"Darius has been an active, productive player in the past,” said Grizzlies General Manager and Vice President of Basketball Operations Chris Wallace. “He did a good job with the Celtics in preseason and we look forward to working with him."

I think this is a smart move. It takes away from a cap space competitor this summer, and provides incentive for the Blazers to make and trade during the season, such as the often rumored Outlaw trade to the Grizz.

Wallace was on Chris Vernon's show yesterday and someone asked the question, "Is there any type of professional courtesy in the NBA between GM's not to sign a player that would have such an effect on a team's cap room?" He said that, he was pretty sure that KP knew that after Miles' positive workout with Boston that it was not likely that he would make it through the entire season without playing in 10 games. He also stated that Miles passed the physical just fine and he just needed to get into playing shape over the next couple of weeks.

Now that Memphis has signed the guy who use to play for the Nets and was in Europe (Kristic?) - how does that effect Miles (or will it at all)?

Kristic signed with the Thunder, not the Grizz.

I'm excited that the Grizz signed D Miles. (I've always been a fan despite his lack of basketball skill) I only hope that he can recover and get to where he was pre-injury. High reward, little risk move.

Miles appears to no longer be on the active roster (You have to be on the active roster to serve your suspension) the first 5 games after he signed, Miles name appeared in the box score along with the words - DNP Suspended. Now Miles is not even showing up there, so he is still stuck at 5 games and not pace to come back January 4th.

Also Steve Francis is not showing up on your active roster. Will he ever get activated? That would push Miles down to your 14th man...

There are 12 players active for each game. Francis has not officially arrived and Darko was out due to injury. It's safe to assume that Miles and Haddadi were active for last night if needed - just didn't show up on the DNPCD list, for whatever reason.

Don't know yet. They (MI and front ofc) keep stressing the fact that he isn't in game shape yet.
Significant? It's probably all in the definition.
Does he make a difference on the court? Don't know yet.
Does he make a difference financially? Very possibly.
Does he make a difference socially? hope not, unless it's positive.
Does he make a difference among our assets? He does to Portland.
.
Was Bryant Reeves, Michael Dickerson, Otis Thorpe, or Brian Cardinal significant?
Yes and No

I posted a few days back that Miles was indeed active and getting credit for his time on suspension.

The was proven out tonight when he hit the floor tonight for 1:46.

The Grizz have 14 men on the roster.

Darko is out another month or so with a broken knuckle.

Marko Jaric is generally inactive.

Miles will have no problem getting into 10 games IF the Grizz opt to keep him. They have until the 6th to sign him for the rest of the season or release him. They could also immediately resign him to a 10 day.

I'm betting Darius sees his 10 games this season, with the Grizz or finishing them off with another team.
