I like the trade. We get our 2nd rd pick back, cash, and Francis for a future conditional 2nd. They need to make room for Dikembe Mutumbo and we benefit. Francis is not the player he used to be and hopefully has humbled since his initial draft, but he could help the Grizzlies out. His contract expires after this year and hopefully he still wants to play. If it was a straight up buyout, I would have thought the Rockets would have done that on their own.

Good grief, if Toine didn't get a chance to play, why the hell should little Stevie Franchise? I'll be seriously ticked if he suits up and plays.

Houston needed to shed $2mil to get under the lux tax threshold.

Houston sends
Francis, $2mil, Grizz 2009 2nd rd pick

Grizz send
2011 conditional 2nd rd pick (protected to 55th pick) probably turns into 100k.

Grizz get their pick back for just allowing the Rockets to stay below the lux tax. Still possible that the Grizz do the same thing for Denver with Chuck Atkins.

Steve and Miles on same team ... ROFL

I hope the Grizz do release him because between Miles and him mayo will be a mess by season's end.

This trade was made from a financial standpoint. I don't expect Francis to be a Grizz for long.

Nothing would be funnier than bring him to the first home game. Show some clips of him refusing to play for memphis than run him out of the arena. He deserves it. I cant stand rookies that will not play for the team that drafts them. Rookies should be happy that they made it to the nba.

He didn't refuse to play for Memphis, he refused to play for Vancouver.

Actually he's probably one of the reasons Memphis has a team right now.

This, along with the Crittendon to Washington trade, is smart management even if neither deal makes the Grizzlies better right now. They have got their first round and second round picks back for free( come to think of it Memphis may have come out ahead dollar wise).

It looks to be the plan. Get far enough under the cap to get some key free agents to sign up to make the Grizz better in the long run.

Amazing, we continue to build assests, but we are giving up nothing.

Good Job>>>>>>>

Saw on Fox13 news tonight that Wallace evidently said that the intent is to keep and play Francis and see if he has anything left.

Wonder if Franchise could play the 2 next to Mayo if Conley or Lowry were to be moved?

"Saw on Fox13 news tonight that Wallace evidently said that the intent is to keep and play Francis and see if he has anything left."

Wallace said almost the exact same sound bite in regards to Walker, just prior to the season starting.

"Wonder if Franchise could play the 2 next to Mayo if Conley or Lowry were to be moved?"

I wouldn't think so.

^^^It could be a possibility. Wallace has stated in the past that he would mandate keeping a 13 man roster to keep his requirement number for roster spots.

From the news clips on Hoopshype, Houston pays the rest of Steve Francis's salary for the year. How awesome is that?
So Far, Chris Wallace has done much more than "the logo" ever did in the Memphis front office.
