And to add to it, there's a rumor that we might try to get Joe Alexander.

You guys are really driving in a lot of young talent, Shaun still needs a season and maybe a half to get going. He will probably get extended minutes here but I think his size could still make him a solid player. And all the better If you get Alexander (two guys from the same team in the dunk contest?) you also have a steady wing rotation.

What´s the deal with the pick? It´s protected, like in the Houston deal?

Re: Grizzlies acquire Livingston/Miles Waived
What's the deal with the whole Livingston thing? You trade for him and then you waive him. There was also a conditional second round pick in the deal and some money from Miami. You send a second round pick to get a guy that you immediately waive? What the hell?
I'm wondering if it's a straight money grab. Livingston is set to make less than a mil and a half for the rest of this year and next year. If Miami sent over the max 3 mil the Grizzlies make almost two mil on the deal.
Anybody got some local info to shed some light on the subject?

Keeping this in here to remind Turk how silly he is.

I am sure that is exactly what happened. The pick was CONDITIONAL that he remained on the team. Miami sends some cash to cover his salary, thus ensuring they aren't taxed on it. Instead of $3-mill, Memphis uses their cap space and earns $100,000 (or so).

To my knowledge, "conditional" means what 'tester' said. He has to play in order for the pick to be actually traded.
The Clippers/Raptors just did the same thing with Hassan Adams. They are money deals/clear roster space moves that in the end help out both teams.
Although it would of been nice to see if SL could regain his promising Clipper form.

Strictly radio-based so no link. I don't really expect anything out of it because I don't know what you guys would want for him.

Re: Grizzlies acquire Livingston/Miles Waived
The Livingston acquisition as explained by HoopsHype, was initiated by the Heat in an effort to eventually sign Alonzo Morning without going over the luxury tax. The move was labeled a favor.
As for the possible acquisition of Joe Alexander, which was floated by Chris Vernon yesterday does make sense, (well at least to me) because we do not have a true back up small forward. If Joel develops then he could be a nice alternative to have when Rudy bucks because he does not recieve max money on his extension. Granted Joe Alexander does not equal Rudy Gay, but Rudy Gay is not playing up to his potential anyway. I do know this that the West Virginia product (C Wallace/OJ Mayo link) will play a lot tougher defense than Rudy is playing, as he seems incapable of stoping anyone.

Chris Wallace (Griz GM) said in radio interview, the pick is protected by position within the draft (I believe it was above 50). Anybody find that in writing yet?

Re: Grizzlies acquire Livingston/Miles Waived
The best line I read was that with the Francis and Livingston deals Wallace has managed to pay for his own salary. Kind of sounds like a Heisley/Wallace idea.
As far as Joe Alexander goes, why would Milwaukee trade him and for what from Memphis? I don't know of too many teams over the years that have traded their high first round pick halfway through the first season.
But I will say this. With the Bucks aquiring Richard Jefferson, and with the emergence of combo forward Luc Mbah A Moute(quickly becoming a favorite of mine), Joe Alexander doesn't have a place to play. Even as a combo forward himself, Alexander is behind the above mentioned small forwards plus Bogut and Charlie Villineuva as well.
Alexander would be an excellent choice for Memphis but I just don't believe this rumor one bit. Milwaukee is quietly stockpiling a stable of very good under the radar type players like Sessions, Alexander, and Mbah A Moute, along with solid pros Charlie Bell, Bogut, Jefferson, Villineuva, and Redd. I just can't figure out what Memphis could offer, besides Mayo, Gay, and Gasol, that would interest them.
I suppose they could use Darko(once his knuckle heals) since Gadzuric isn't that great, but that's not enough to entice them, even if Memphis threw in Arthur, unless Wallace was willing to take on Gadzuric' contract.

The second rd pick is protected anything 55 or below. They only get the pick if it is 56, 57, 58, 59 or 60.
