Sam Mitchell is the perfect coach for your team.

He'll get the best out of all your players.

He's a motivator and he's good for young players like Gay and Mayo.

Yeah, Smitch would be a good option for your team. Just make sure you don't have any players that need nurturing (see Bargnani), he can ruin them. Mayo seems like a tough guy, he could handle Smitch.

Source: Memphis Grizzlies fire coach Marc Iavaroni

The Grizzlies relieved Marc Iavaroni of his coaching duties tonight after 1 1/2 seasons, according to a Grizzlies source.

The Grizzlies will play the New York Knicks on Friday night with an assistant to be named coaching the team. The Griz will immediately begin a search for Iavaroni’s replacement, who will come from outside of the organization. Candidates will include former Philadelphia coach Maurice Cheeks and Milwaukee Bucks assistant and former Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins, the source said.

Hmmm, Mo Cheeks intrigues me but I don't know.

Lionel Hollins is actually an intriguing option. He was interim coach before, and was really in a no win situation. He seemed to be good at motivating the players and I've always thought he deserved another shot. Realistically though, whoever gets this job probably won't keep it for long. Coaches hired during rebuilding rarely do.

Just saw this news on yahoo... but I never knew that Iavaroni was a Fratello disciple!

Former Grizzly Stromile Swift has been criticized for always ending up in the doghouse with coaches, but his coaches are all of the same coaching lineage!!! It's no wonder this has happened so often!

Some Griz fans may remember the suspension of Swift by Iavaroni last season that led to Swift being traded to the Nets.

Word has come down that Lionel Hollins has landed the job and not on an interim basis, and that Maurice Cheeks will be joining the staff as well. Mike Conley Jr. can unpack as it seems he will finally get some coaching and some freedom. Basketball this is Rudy Gay, Rudy Gay this is the basketball. Hello fast break points, goodbye fratello ball.

I am against the firing but hope for the best.

Lionel Hollins as permanent coach? This decision I hope was not made overnight. I absolutely can't believe that choice. He Has a LOT to prove. Not only he has to bring back the fans that are upset with this core team performance - he has to also prove to all the old fans that he isn't an idiot. I dont see how a man can transform over a few years at his age. But I will see what he does. I rather have Eliot Perry or Larry Fench. Jason Williams or Chucky Atkins. Charles Barkley. Dick Vitale.

Finally, my only question is why did it take so ********* long? It's been apparent for about a month - month and a half - that the players just weren't responding to him any more. We've lost 15 of the last 17; and, granted we're not the best team in the league, but we're better than that - we saw it at the beginning of the season and during that 4 game win streak.

Stromile doesn't play, because he's not a good player. Occam's razor, my friend.

Im interested to see what a guy like Conley can do with a good coach behind him. I just see no reason why he cant be a very very good PG with Rudy an Mayo running the floor with him.

but a better example than Swift is Kwame Brown.

We didn't even take him for a test run and now he is starting Center on some nights for Detroit. True, they abandoned him frequently to go with small ball (which is a great mistake in my opinion). But he did nothing in Memphis. Swift had his chance in Houston and I'm not totally sure why but nothing happened there for him.

For the first big mistake out of the gates by Ivy jsut look at Casey Jacobsen. And why didn't Pau Gasol flourish with both his best friend on the team and a big man friendly coach??? Very Odd. I like Ivy; don't get me wrong. But something was strange. It's abominable that they fired him midway through like this though. I think they should trade all their stars and become D league affiliate. but that's my most pessimistic speech. Very bad to drop him for a proven loser on this franchise.... wtf?

Cheeks and Miles back together again.

LOL that should be fun.

For those of you that don't know, Miles verbally asaulted Cheeks while they were in Portland. He called him a **** several times.

MI's firing isn't too surprising. From his coaching standpoint, he didn't have a specific direction set in place for his players to follow from the jump. It's like seeing zombies leading the sheep. As for Lionel Hollins leading the way from here, it isn't like this team is heading to the playoffs. We will have to find out if Hollins is capable to turning mesh into potential that may later trun into something great. Otherwise, good luck.

Gotta love the Stro-centric view of the universe!
