http://www.grizzliesonline.com/index.ph ... s_at_cavs/On the Cavs:
“They got the ball and turned it back on again and attacked us. In the second half, we did a better job in certain stretches of defending, but we still couldn’t score against them consistently enough in order to get back into the game.”
On the lack of production of Mayo and Conley of late, including tonight:
“You’re always concerned when your main guys can’t score, or don’t make shots, but that’s basketball. You go through stretches where you’re on fire and you make shots and you go through stretches when you don’t. We just have to do a much better job of executing, running the court and trying to get easier stuff for each other and a little better ball movement, so that teams can’t focus in and hone in on certain guys.”
Mike Conley
On the game and how the Grizzlies played tonight:
“I’m not down as much because of the loss by 20 points. I think the way we played and (that) we lost by 20 points is not acceptable for us.”
On getting the deficit to 13 points in the third quarter, and the key segment of the game:
“That was a tough stretch when they pushed the lead out from 13 to 20 points or whatever it was. I just think the beginning of the game was the worst part of it. They (Cavs) came out and really set the tempo, set the pace, and their defense played a big part in that. We just couldn’t recover from it.”
O.J. Mayo
On his recent struggles offensively:
“That’s the way it goes sometimes. You make some shots, you miss some shots, you have to keep playing hard, keep attacking and try to get some wins.”
On what the Grizzlies can learn from the Cavs:
“They play with a lot of energy. They play really hard as a team and they do a great job of getting what they want, executing offensively and really playing tough defense. They’re a really good team, one of the top three or four teams in the league, so you can learn a lot off them and continue to get better as a young team.”
Cavs
Head Coach Mike Brown
On the game:
“In the second half, we tried to play the right way, but Memphis came out with energy and they got some things in transition that we know we can do a better job with. I thought our guys are continuing to try to focus and develop good habits. It’s good to see different guys step up on different nights.
Wally Szczerbiak had six assists tonight, and it was fun to watch him move the basketball the way he did and find his teammates. J.J. (Hickson) grabbed nine rebounds tonight and that was terrific. I thought Gib’s swagger was good to see. I thought that he was aggressive offensively and he did a nice job of shooting the ball and driving the ball. He had a nice mix and because of that, we went to him through a stretch and he helped us create that separation by scoring points offensively.”
LeBron James
On what was best about tonight:
“I think it was the ball movement, how everyone got into the flow of the offense and contributed tonight. Tarence and Wally stepped up, especially with Delonte out. The ball movement was impressive and how it went from side to side. Wally had six assists, Mo had six assists and I had eight, so it was really nice to see the ball movement tonight.”
