Can the Grizzlies Finish Worse?

Post#1 » by SD2042 » Wed Mar 25, 2009 11:13 pm

At 17-53, looks like the Grizz are on the verge of leting history repeat itself. However with 12 games left to play and with the remaining schedule looking the way it does. I have a feeling that they may finish worse than I'm thinking. Six of the twelve games are against playoff teams. Portland and Phoenix(currently not in playoff race) will be played twice before it's all said and done. If the Grizz have a real chance at winning any remaining games the potentials are Sacramento, GSW, one of the Portland games, and Washington. Those are hugh maybes. If the Grizzlies finish worse as I'm predicting.......... There won't be any words to describe how it would be at that point. Maybe that's it. It would simply be numb and pointless. What's yall take on this potential pointless ending to the season?

No for me because the GRIZZ are already bad enough and they have had one too many of these types of seasons.

Than this season? Probably.
Than we are located in the standings right now? Heck yes, and it's probable.

I know progress takes time and all, but how does a team expect to make a plan to go forward when you continue to fall further behind than you already have?

Part of the three year plan is to be committed to losing for the first two years! Heisley and Wallace want to get young pieces to the puzzle, but not acquire the needed vets that you need to be good until the third year of the three year plan. I expect to see some movement on draft night, and the team possibly make a run at Milsap or Varejao during the summer (assuming the Grizz don't get Griffin).

I tried to hold out for at least 24 wins, but I don't see it happening anymore. Looks like we end up one short of where we have been the last couple of seasons.

Can you say "few steps back" ? Another thing to hash out. Heisley mentions the 3YP last summer, but yet the Grizz have endure 3 seasons of the rebuilding plan. To me it's safe to say the 3YP looks to be another 3YP lie if you ask me.

Have the owners/front office been known to fulfill promises in the past? Everything they say must be taken with a grain of salt. The Grizz will not be great until we get that marquee player. Once that happens, we will have enough young talent to build a solid squad though.

None of us should be surprised, or down on this season. Way back in September or so I recall the consensus was that this season was going to be one where the young guys got lots of playing time and despite the win/loss record it would be all about development and evaluating the potential of the young squad and making the neccesary changes following the season that would be required to get to the next level.

Has this not been exactly what has happened? I mean besides Darell Arthur, the young core of Conley, Mayo, Gay, and Gasol have logged good minutes(at least Conley has since Lowry was traded).

I said before the season began that all I hoped for was to see the learning curve inch upwards as the season progressed. To this point I admit I'm a little dissapointed. But I am encouraged because despite the lack of wins, we know that a good number of losses have been close and that a lack of veteran leadership has hurt in games that were lost in the fourth quarters.

Lately I've been giving some thought to trading down the Grizzlies pick in return for some bonafide proven commodities to shore up both the starting lineup and bench strength. If Memphis selects below #3 then I think there's better players in the league that can make a quicker improvement for Memphis rather than adding another rookie that isn't an instant impact player.
