Instead of having the first page cluttered with trade proposals, I figure one big thread would be more efficient.

Do you guys think there's any chance Atlanta would trade Al Horford for #2? What about Al Jefferson for #2?

Real tough to say. I think with Horford, the Hawks are committed to him. And on the Wolves end, they want to built around Jefferson considering he was the main piece in the trade back for KG two yrs ago.

That's what I figured. I'm a big enough believer in Al Jefferson (provided he's recovered from the torn ACL) that I throw Rudy in with #2 for Jefferson and #18.
I been hating on Conley the past 6 months or so, but now I feel that he's sufficient enough to man the point position. Plus with the reports about Rubio, it may be best to trade #2 (if they're true).

Everyone knows my feelings about trading the pick. I asked this question in the draft forum. What if Jordon Hill has an amazing workout for the Grizzlies? What sort of trade does management then ponder?
I like the Horford idea. I think his game suffered some with Josh Smith being healthy the whole season and thus making Horford play alot of center. I think as a power forward he is much better.
I agree that the Timberwolves wouldn't trade Jefferson, but I wonder about Kevin Love? Is the enticement of Rubio just too good to turn down?

That's one ppl have said on Conley in recent weeks. Their lack of respect for him seems to soften a bit with his improving play during the last few weeks of the season. If Conley can continue to get better as a PG, then I guess he could be worth keeping I guess. After all, the PG position is the hardest spot for a player to break into in the NBA.
On Rubio, if the rebuilding process started now instead of 3yrs ago. I would draft him to keep him. At this rate even if he wants to be here or not, I would consider the trade option to see what the Grizz can net for him at the best offer. I rather have a vet PG off the bench(excluding Jaric) to backup Conley rather than a rookie PG at this rate.

Looking over the free agent crop this off-season, I like Brevin Knight. He could come reasonably cheap and brings a lot of experience with him.
Did he end on good terms with management his first go around in Memphis?

BK and the gen mgmt ended on good terms when he was traded to PHX 5 season ago. As for bringin him back. I think I'll pass. He would do well for us in the passing game, but I rather get a PG who can play on both ends of the floor at this point.
As for potential FA PGs' I rather see here. Most of them are restricted and they're no tellin how much the askin price is or how many dollar the owners are willing to throw at them.

Horford was #3 in a much better draft. If ATL offered him for your pick, how much more would y'all be willing to go? By that, I mean picks.

Yeah I see what you're saying. My line of thinking is to surround the young core (Juice, Conley, Gasol, Rudy, DA) with veterans that won't take away too much of their playing time. I look at the other PG free agents and most are talented enough to start somewhere else and/or command too much money to be a backup. I figure if the Grizzlies are keeping Conley around, throw him out there for 35-40 minutes a night. Give the leftover 8-10 minutes to a veteran.

I've been coming from the same angle with the same problem. I also think some solid character veterans would help alot. But as you say, how do you find those sort of guys that will be willing to play limited minutes behind the younger core? The only thing I could think of were some combo players that can cover a couple positions. A combo guard like Keyon Dooling(don't know how he'll do after hip surgery though). A combo shooting guard/small forward like Fransisco Garcia. A tweener small forward/power forward. A combo center/power forward(the Boursisous guy from Greece still interest me).
One problem is that alot of these type of players are willing to sacrifice for a chance at a title on a contender. But Memphis is along ways from being there.

I think Memphis can do it. Just look at Denver six years ago. All it took was the prospect of playing with young players (Carmelo Anthony and Nene) and lots of cap space. Within 2 off-seasons they landed veterans like Andre Miller, Earl Boykins, Kenyon Martin and Voshon Lenard. I think Memphis can do something similar, but they have even more younger players to build around.
I've thought of a few scenarios, but I'm hesitant to post them because I think they're a bit ridiculous lol.

Here's a (somewhat) reasonable roadblock back to the playoffs - sooner than later - keeping the tenants of the 3YP in tact...
Trade Conley, Arthur & 35 to Portland for Outlaw, Webster & 24
Draft Rubio at 2
Draft Hansbrough at 24
Draft Green at 27
Sign Paul Millsap to a significant offer sheet
*If Millsap is matched sign Boozer
*Sign Lee if Millsap/Boozer don't pan out
Sign Glen Davis
Sign Ioannis Bourousis
Trade Darko to OKC for Earl Watson
PG - Rubio/Watson
SG - Mayo/Webster
SF - Gay/Outlaw/Green
PF - Millsap(Boozer/Lee)/Davis/Hansbrough
C - Gasol/Bourousis/Haddadi

I like it.
Here's my offseason plan:
Trade:
Memphis gets: Amare Stoudemire (with extension), Leandro Barbosa
Phoenix gets: Rudy Gay, Mike Conley, 2010 unprotected Memphis 1st round pick, Darrell Arthur, Darko and Buckner's expiring contracts, and the Laker's pick in 2010
Draft:
Pick #1: Ricky Rubio
Pick #2: Trade the Orlando pick and the 2009 2nd rounder for a mid-late lottery pick and a contract that a team needs to get out of for tax reasons. Draft Earl Clark
Pick #3: Buy a late 1st or early 2nd round pick and take B.J. Mullens
Free Agency:
1) Re-sign Hak
2) Sign Rodney Carney
3) Sign Keith Bogans
4) Re-sign Q Ross to the veteran minimum
2009-2010 lineup:
Rubio/Mayo/Jaric
Mayo/Barbosa/Bogans
Clark/Carney/Ross
Stoudemire/Hak/Mullens
Gasol/Mullens/Haddadi

The only thing I'd change in your plan O would be to nix Hak and sign Davis or AV.

That came to mind, especially the idea of signing Varejao, but I doubt a player of that caliber would go from starting on a championship-caliber team to a backing up Stoudemire on a rebuilding team. I guess he may come if Memphis really overpaid, but I doubt they would ever do such a thing.

Welp, my turn lol.
Trades:
1. Trade #2, Rudy Gay, Darko Milicic and Lakers' pick in 2010 for #1 and Marcus Camby
Draft:
#1 - Blake Griffin
#28 - Sam Young
Free agency:
Sign Shawn Marion to a three year-$24M contract.
Sign Keith Bogans to a two year-$5M contract.
Sign Brevin Knight to a one year-$1M contract.
Re-sign Quinton Ross to a one year-veteran's minimum.
Roster:
Gasol/Camby/Haddadi
Griffin/Arthur
Marion/Young/Buckner
Mayo/Bogans/Ross
Conley/Knight
Basically my whole idea is to give this team a tough, defensive minded identity on defense that can run and gun on offense. Also tried addressing the rebounding issues (last this past season) with Camby, Griffin and Marion. Shooting is a bit of a concern, but between Mayo, Conley, Bogans and Young I think it's adequate.

Really like this team.
although, I would replace Webster for Blake in the first trade and try to do something like Darko + Buckner“s expiring + future 1st round for Leandro Barbosa. Also, I would put AV as our option #3, ahead Lee.
Edit: and would re-sign Ross for the vet min

How would you Grizz fans feel about drafting Rubio and signing Shawn Marion? The team would have to move to playing an even faster (old Suns-type) style of run & gun, but Rubio would be amazing running that type of offense. You could probably get Marion for cheap, given how he played in Miami and Toronto and I think he would return to his former self in the right type of offense.
Moreover, maybe moving to a faster style of basketball would help put some fans in the seats and create some excitement about the team (right now is a great opportunity to fill the vacuum left by Calapari). I have been to games in Memphis and it seems like the franchise is in need of a pick-me-up!
So what do you think about...
1. Drafting Rubio and playing run and gun small ball?
2. Signing a guy like Marion?
P.S. I think you could get more than fair value for Conley from the stacked assets of the Trailblazers, who might think that bringing in Conley could help Oden get more confidant and play better.
